Hello Teresa:
My name is John I’m 57 and I was diagnosed with PD back in 2018. When I was first diagnosed I got really depressed and stayed in bed for about 9 months. Things were bad! My weight sky rocketed to 250 pounds. I guess it was around April or May something just clicked and my wife and I started to go outside for walks. Yes I had to use a cane but that didn’t last long because once I fell I had to start using a rollator. I really hated that because here I was a 57 year old guy having to use a rollator. I felt embarrassed! Eventually I did a 5K WALK for the Parkinson’s Association of the Carolinas. I did so well by raising the highest amount of donors for a single walker. For that the gym has in my HONOR IS PERMITTING PEOPLE WITH PD TO USE THE BICYCLES AND TREADMILLS FREE OF CHARGE! It’s really pretty cool.

I’m currently on carbidopa-levodopa 3x daily. It helps out and my tremors are very minimal. It’s funny you talk about CBD because I have talked to my PD and family physician about that same subject not to long ago. Here is the response I received:
Neither doctor agreed taking CBD not because of what or where it comes from but because there is no regulation on the product. In other words I could go buy the CBD at one pharmacy and the ingredients would be one way and I could go to the local gas station and the ingredients could be another! Yes there is some marijuana in CBD and one never knows for certain how much marijuana each producer puts into their product. That’s why my doctors advised me NOT to take it!

I workout daily at a gym. I do yoga and other classes to keep my muscles flexible. I will say my knees are my sore spot but I yoga does help. I can definitely tell when I don’t go to the gym. I use a bike at the gym for 45 minutes for my cardio daily. I use weights for toning up not for bulking up! I do both free weights and the machines.

On Saturday and Sunday I generally workout at home. I use the balance ball to help me out with my stability. Even though I do yoga during the week I do the ball on the weekends.

Since you said you workout another workout I use is on my iPhone or iPad and that’s the Apple Fitness+ app. It is awesome. It has cardio, yoga, HIIT, ROWING AND SOME OTHER STUFF. I’m also into making my own fresh fruit juices like:
KIWI PEACH JUICE
1 med peach, pitted
1 kiwi peeled
2 cups fresh baby spinach leaves
1/4 avocado
5 ounces water

CREAMY PAPAYA BERRY JUICE
1 cup papaya diced, seed free
1 cup cranberries
2 cups fresh baby spinach or kale
5 ounces water

CRANBERRY NECTARINE JUICE
1 cup cranberries
1 nectarine, pitted
3 large strawberries
2 cups fresh baby spinach
5 ounces water

I drink one of these before I workout or I really go crazy and make a 100% fruit juice combo and I add 1/2 scoop vanilla whey, 1 scoop creatine, 8oz skim milk, 1 scoop low carb vanilla ice cream, 1/2 apple no seeds, 1/2 peach, pitted, 1/4 pear seeded, 6 green grapes, 1/2 kiwi skinned, 1/4 cup fresh cut pineapple, 1/2 plum, 1/4 mango, 1 cup fresh kale, 1/2 tangerine, 1/4 papaya seeded, and anything else you may enjoy! The whey is great for your muscles after you workout.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask! John

Hello John,

I did not mention CBD, I do not take it myself and do not recommend it either. Unless you know the purity of the product (from start to finished product) it might not be healthy. I agree totally with your doctors.

I am so glad for your exercise program, that is the best way to deal with PD! Also, your smoothie recipes look great. They are healthy and look tasty.
