Iron Depletion in Blood related to COVID?

Has there been any reports of iron depletion in the blood after receiving the Pfizer vaccine?

@praktis

I received the Maderna vaccine in March. For months I was getting more and more fatigued. Sleeping all day after sleeping all night. Finally I couldn't walk 100 ft without resting. So three weeks ago I went to my physician and got a blood test. That night I was instructed to go straight to the emergency room and get a blood transfusion. I had been diagnosed with critical anemia. Whether this is tied to the vaccine or not, cannot be proven.

Have you and the doctor got a monitoring plan in place now? What do they say about determining the cause?

No monitoring plan and probably no determining the cause. Small town, one doc. I'll monitor my own symptoms and if they progress further I'll go back for another blood test.

I have also experienced this. I got a bleeding nose the other day (not related to the vaccine) and I can usually smell the metal in my blood when I get them. It didn't smell the same it smelt like meat left on a kitchen bench, and then I, clicked its iron.

That explains why my hands have been cold, and why I have been wearing jackets at work as I've been shivering. I've had the Pfizer vaccine.

Why is the vaccine using my iron and where is it going?

So, how did you conclude that your nosebleed indicates the loss of iron? Iron is typically found in your blood, so it is typically lost in a nosebleed. The smell of blood can be affected by a number of factors. Have you been tested for low hemoglobin, iron and/or ferritin?
When were you vaccinated, and have you been tested since then for hemoglobin, iron and/or ferritin levels? How do they compare with previous lab results?

If analysis has not been done, including searching for other causes of the changes you report, it is be premature to assume that the vaccine and the smell of your nosebleed are in any way related.

Get to Dr. do not wait. Get on a program. It does not get better on its own. If you ignore it your looking at possible organ failure. Have you had Covid or just the vaccine?

I have severe anemia after getting the 2 Pfizer vaccines in April. Ive had multiple tests to rule out internal bleeding. The only change in lifestyle was the vaccines.
In Aug., I just finished getting 3 iron infusions. No improvement so far, but it could take another week or two. Hope that helps.

@pamkh- Good morning and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. What symptoms did you have that led you to get tested for iron deficiency? Do you have any other conditions that might be involved with this?

I had the Moderna and no issues beforehand. My hemoglobin read perfect piece a year before and then to below 10 and iron to below 30 after the Covid vaccine but can’t find any articles linking the two. I have been put on NIFEREX because dr thinks I gave internal bleeding. I am type 1.

I, too, at 75 years of age, have never had an anemia or RBC problem. One or two months after one Moderna vaccination, actually getting CoVid and a Regeneron infusion, I noticed that my hair, in addition to getting extremely thin, had gotten dry, brittle, and began breaking off, one to two inches from my scalp. Had my iron checked and the iron was below the normal range and ferritin was so low that it was just about out of range as well, on the low side. Doctor put me on iron pills but to this date, five months later, I don't see any improvement. I have not yet had the level of iron in my blood re-checked. I believe this is either related to having had the virus or the vaccination.

Post Covid infection iron deficiency has been documented for some time, and may be part of the cause of some post-Covid fatigue. The frequency of post-vaccine anemia is still not really known. Some other things that can be part of iron deficiency are low thyroid and low vitamin D levels. Were these checked at the same time? After low ferritin readings, it can take some time to build up, if iron supplements don't work, sometimes infusions may be prescribed.
I hope this answers some of your questions
