Loneliness: Why am I depressed?
I have everything to be happy for yet I am depressed because I live by myself, I have no family here, and loneliness is starting to get the best of me. I love to write (I am a published author) love to cook (but no one cares to come for dinner) and gardening. Why am I so sad?

@nannette1941 How have you been doing the last few days? Have any of these suggestions sounded like things you would like to try?

I am doing better, taking charge of myself and not feel as if I were Joan of Arc rescuing a whole country.
@nannette1941 Good for you! No one, including me [as much as I think I would like to!] can rescue a whole country. Rescue yourself, doing whatever is needed to do that! What have you changed to take charge of yourself?

Hello @bustrbrwn22, I hope this message finds you in good spirits. I thought I would tag you in this discussion in the Just want to talk group so that you can connect with other members who may also be feeling the same way as yourself. I had the opportunity to listen to a talk by Dr. Amit Sood a few years ago and was totally blown away by his insight and ability to explain why we think the way we do. I thought you along with @nannette1941, @artgirl2, @migizii and others may enjoy this talk by Dr. Sood.
Happy Brain: How to Overcome Our Neural Predispositions to Suffering
Thank you! I will enjoy watching this. 🙂
Yes. This was very helpful. The talk about the focused brain was a fabulous reminder for me.
Since retirement, the opportunities for mind wandering have increased 💯. A top skill of mine is focus and I’m most happy after I’ve spent several hours in that mode. I’m an artist and a writer and I’ve Let mind wandering throw me off track which feeds my depression that keeps me from exercising my focus. Silly human that I am.
Thank you @johnbishop for the T. T. I will watch again and start the practice of gratitude upon awakening.
@suzbyrne, Dr Sood also has a website where you can sign up for daily reminders on different healing practices. Here's the email I received this morning

2021: Your Year of Healing
Dear Friend,
Here is your insight and suggested practice for today:
Insight: Our barrier to compassion isn’t the absence of it; it is limiting our compassion to a select few who we believe deserve our compassion.
Suggested Practice: Think of expanding your compassion to a few people or groups of people you may have judged in the past.

Me too. I moved to Florida from New York and I know no one here and I’m so lonely.
