New Study Reveals DANGER for immunocompromised.
New England Jorurnal of Medicine: to paraphrase, 55% of those hospitalized nationwide with breakthrough Covid infections are immunocompromised. Delta Variant. I am taking super precautions!! Please be excruciatingly careful about your safety out there folks.

I totally agree with you!
Hi Elaine! I think I missed your first Re-birthday!!! Congratulations on your first year after SCT!! That’s a huge mile stone! Can you believe how great you feel compared to last year at this time? How did you celebrate??? I know you’re itching to travel…
This whole Covid situation has been such an eye opener as to human behavior, hasn’t it? When I consider what you and I went through the first few months after transplant just to survive and these people are whining about having to wear a mask? LOL…insert eye roll.
Well, we’re not going to change anything in the grand scheme so we’ll just have to keep being proactive in our own little corner of the world.
What’s been bringing you joy?
HI everyone - I am an interloper here, because I'm not a transplant recipient. The closest one to me is my cousin who got a new heart just before Covid - he's still not going out and I miss him, but we talk gardening on the phone.
After being the Covid group mentor for many months, it is a pleasure to sneak over here and read messages from like-minded people. Who knew that a devastating and contagious illness could be so polarizing? We were on the road last week to visit a sick friend, and saw masking, distancing and cleaning that ran the gamut from "Whaa...it's just the flu?" to lovely compliance (one hotel required masks and disposable gloves at their breakfast buffet, and set their tables almost 10 feet apart.)
I applaud all of you for taking a stand to protect yourselves, your families and the community! Thank you!
Sue
No worries, I am sure someone here will talk to you about that. 🤓
Thanks, Lori! Yes, I am feeling great (like “normal “) which is amazing! I am an avid golfer and have been playing several times a week, walking the course when it isn’t too hot. I get so much joy out of being with friends and family again! Hopefully, Covid will not spoil this again. 😢 Thank you for your well wishes on my rebirthday!
I’m so happy you’re doing well and feeling normal again. That first year is a dilly. We’ve been given quite a gift!
I agree, Covid is always that gnat flying in our faces! We’re watching it closely because we have missed our winters in Fl the past couple of years! First with all the AML/Transplant hoopla and then Covid derailed the last 2 times. We’re trying again for late October but with FL being such a hotbed and the absolute lack of any sanity down there for public safety, we’re worried we won’t be able to go again!
We own our condo so making arrangements isn’t an issue. We’d drive so that we have our car down there. It’s that thought of being surrounded by so much illness, even with our preventive measures, would be be safe. Ah well, we’ll figure it out as we get closer to winter.
Will you make it to Palm Springs this year? (I think I remember you saying you head there annually?)
@sueinmn The differences in how people are handling Covid and how towns are handling it runs the gamut. My neighbor had three children, one who is old enough to already be vaccinated, the second will be able to get vaccinated in about a week, but the third is a few years away from it. The schools in our town are not requiring masks, not even for the younger grades where the children will not be vaccinated, nor are they distancing the desks. Apparently, the enrollment is too high to have the room to do that.
I really feel bad for my neighbor, she is so distraught about sending her kids off and I would be too. I am grateful to not have school-aged children. According to Dr. Fauci if more people get vaccinated now that the Pfizer vaccine has full FDA approval things could improve greatly.

Ugh! I am so grateful, I do not have school age children now.
Interesting show on 1A, public radio show, today - Dr. Rachael Lee, epidemiologist; assistant professor, University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Medicine & Andrew Pekosz, professor of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, Johns Hopkins University talking about Covid, vaccines, boosters.
Dr. Lee said that in hospitals in Alabama and other hospitals she’s heard from, 65% of hospitalized, vaccinated Covid patients are immunocompromised, echoing the SF Chronicle article.
With respect to the serious title of this post, New Study Reveals DANGER for immunocompromised, I will respond with the observation made by the Romulan Commander in the original Star Trek Season One Episode 14, Balance of Terror: Danger and I are old companions!
Best always,
s!
