Sputum tests: Problems producing enough sputum

I have problems producing enough sputum for a sample. I had no problems in March but my doctor wanted it repeated again. Yea... March was negative for MAC and I'm currently on the big 3. I took my sample to the lab this morning and they said there was too much saliva. Any suggestions? Last time I used the nebulizer with saline prior and I also did that this morning.

I have also read, and found it helpful, when I'm trying to produce a sputum sample, to have an extra cup or glass handy to use as a "spit cup." Just spit into it right before coughing to clear out excess saliva.
