New Study Reveals DANGER for immunocompromised.
New England Jorurnal of Medicine: to paraphrase, 55% of those hospitalized nationwide with breakthrough Covid infections are immunocompromised. Delta Variant. I am taking super precautions!! Please be excruciatingly careful about your safety out there folks.

@lizzy102, can you please post the title and link to the study, please?
Read in San Francisco Chronicle: https://apple.news/Ank55VUrHTuKqpBM5j52QYA The article has a click through to the study. I hope this link works, Apple News doesn’t like sharing.
It wanted me to subscribe, which I don't want to, so could not read the article. Dang it.

@athenalee- Good morning. I saw this article too. I can't imagine how fearful transplant patients are with COVID-19 and the seemingly, alleged waning effects of vaccines. Although I am a lung cancer survivor I do not take any medications to prevent rejections. You are in a special group all the way around. It's all a two-edged sword, right?
Hi all,
I am a one year post kidney transplant. I took the third dose, waited one month, and my latest test came back again with Zero covid antibodies. I knew the third dose was a 50/50 shot, but it was a disappointment when I saw the results. I continue to live in a bubble and wear my N95 mask for essential visits outside my home. It's frustrating to rely on others to do the right thing. I am hopeful that now that the vaccine is officially FDA approved, we will start to see vaccine mandates in a big way. Military, Schools, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Corporations will hopefully come to my rescue! I am waiting patiently for the calvary to free me. My local hospital is closed for elective surgeries due to high level of covid disease in my neighborhood. Lots of unvaccinated. Florida is a public health disaster area. I pray every night that during this high level of virus, no new variants are created.
It is indeed very scary. I’ve felt blessed to be in Vermont with our 85% vaccinated population, but even we’re being hit. I’ve enjoyed being unmasked outdoors for nearly two months, but after reading that article I’m going to be fully masked everywhere once again.
You bet. Appreciation for @lizzy102 for posting the link. For me certainly it’s a wake up call to be masked everywhere again.
Yes, thanks so much to @lizzy102 and @athenalee for the posts.
Here's a synopsis of CDC findings:
ACIP Data and Clinical Considerations for Additional Doses in immunocompromised patients
"Immunocompromised patients are more likely to get severely ill from COVID-19
Higher risk for:
*Prolonged SARS-CoV-2 infection and shedding
*Viral evolution during infection and treatment (hospitalized patients)
*Low antibody/neutralization titers to SARS-CoV-2 variants
*More likely to transmit SARS-CoV-2 to household contacts
*More likely to have breakthrough infection:
*44% of hospitalized breakthrough cases are immunocompromised people in US
*40% of hospitalized breakthrough cases are immunocompromised people in Israel"
...rather sobering, and living in Florida in a college town with students beginning classes tomorrow, it's reasonable to think that the situation will become even worse here, before it gets better. I'm pretty much homebound.
I'm 3 yrs out from heart transplant and taking Cyclosporine, Myfortic, low dose pred. Will get a third vaccine soon but can't rely on any response. So fortunate to have my family and my heart 🙂
