ADT how long post Radical Prostatectomy & Radiation Therapy?

Posted by jbuuck @jonbuuck, Jun 7, 2020

I'd like to know how long men have been on Lupron after a radical prostatectomy and adjuvant radiation. I've been told that I should be on Lupron for anywhere from 18 months to three years after my surgery, or two years if having radiation after surgery. My surgery was May 1, 2019, and I'm currently receiving 34 radiation treatments. I'd like to get off of Lupron as soon as possible after radiation, but I don't want to cut it short if there is a benefit to a longer Lupron treatment.

I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. My PSA was 1.6 now down to.7 and am unsure whether to have radiation therapy or surgically removed. Can you tell me the pros and cons of both? Thank You.

These low PSA numbers driving men to treatment have always been interesting to me. I’m sure there is more to the story. I have been on Active Surveillance for three years now. PSA fluctuating between mid 4s to mid 5s. Gleason 6, and low risk genomic test results. I have no intention to pursue any treatment. My AS includes 6 month PSA checks with visit to urologist and annual 3TMRI. We will continue to monitor. I am 66 years of age.
Best wishes to you.

I would seek a second opinion. With your PSA level that low and decreasing, I would be dancing for joy.

I believe that is an excellent approach.

I have had 2 Focal Laser Ablations now on Lupron ending this month.

I am doing the same only doing a psa every 3 months and 3T MRI annually.

Wish you well

I am in the same situation have been on Lupron for 3 years, side effects are terrible. So I am taking a holiday from it to see how I react. I have observed conversation on this site where guys have said taking a one month Lupron injection have significantly less side effects. So if I must go back on it that’s what I plan to try.

Wish you the best

I had rp 4/18 for my 7 4/3 Pc. After 3 years psa went up to .28. I started orogovyx (Lupron alternative ) 6/23. My psa is down to .13. Tes down to 74. I start 36 srt on 8/25. My doctors r saying I only need to do 3 months adt total. This is far less than all of you. Please let me have ur thoughts on whether this is enough time?

Most studies I’ve come across talk about 6-18 months.

Here’s one - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pcf.org/news/18-month-adt-optimal-for-locally-advanced-prostate-cancer/amp/

I have not seen three months.

While I did not do ADT in conjunction with SRT, I did when SRT failed and I had four pelvic lymph nodes show up on a C11 Choline scan.

The treatment plan was originally 24 months of ADT in conjunction with 25 radiation treatments and six cycles of taxotere.

We stopped at 18 months of Lupron because of my positive response to treatment, been three years since, no treatment required so far.

Normally I believe while on ADT you want to see your T below 50, prefers less than 20.

You may want to discuss with your medical team why three months, what is the basis for that, why not 6-18 months. You may also want to discuss your T level, the impact of nite being below 50, better yet, 20.
