Grid/Net shaped rash

Posted by karenamara @karenamara, Sep 19, 2020

My boyfriend gets these net-shaped patches on his back once in a while, according to his mom it's been happening since he was a teen. What is it? It doesn't hurt or itch. He takes a medication called Modecate.

UGH....BED BUGS! My daughter's apartment in SF had an infestation and it was terrible and $$$ to fix. It took a month and heat was the only thing that kills those buggers.

I get these patches of macular skin any place on my body. Arms, back, belly, forehead..... I have understood it is part of my Gelsolin. Fortunately you live in the Boston area, with close access to the Amyloidosis Center there. Macular also might be part of Clarkson's Disease, although this usually comes in the form of red, gray or black patches of skin around the head or torso. Mine started on my forehead. It was diagnosed as Shingles at first. However, I have never had Chicken Pox, so no Zoster, and Shingles is probably out. But I do have the genes for Clarkson's (CALR) as well as Gelsolin with Walker-Warburg. I also have FKTN and FKRP, which are also possibilities for the Macular. Again, a good clinical-grade gene sequencing (30x or better) should teach you a lot.

Hi all, I'm here because my 22 year old son has started being these in his face, different places. They don't itch, hurt nor are they warm when you touch them. Fade rather quickly. He's away for college right now, we live in Texas.

Wow! I’m happy to find this… my boys are 14 and 12 get these each year. They either have it on their chest or back. When I catch it I take a picture since they don’t come with any symptoms, I’m not sure how often they get them. Here is one from June 27th. Their pediatrician thought they were laying on something to get the marks, but we knew they did not. We live in Boston. I hope we can figure this out!

Do either of your boys have any medicines? Or were they when they started?

This was two different occasions and different sides of his face. First time they appeared on his forehead.

I've had this about three times in my life. I had a hard time finding information about it. The last time I had it I found, besides the alien theories, a similar kind of rash that appears when the skin burns against the pavement, it had a particular name but I don't remember it.
Anyway, that time, I had been sick and was in bed all day, I realized I was wearing a thick wool woven sweater, and the "bumps" on it, matched the spots on my skin.

Hello @ponina and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. There have been others who have shared they realized the pattern resembled that of fabric they've been exposed to, however, you mention that you were sick at the time of the rash. Had you been sick the previous two times as well?

Loads of info of this exact same rash at various places on the body, it is not caused by aliens. It is a documented medical condition, read this blog in completion and also do your own internet searches.
