Trigger Point Pain

Posted by mjq @mjq, Aug 9, 2021

Had trigger point pain in the trapezius muscle, which was mistaken for cervical pain for months. Finally steroid shots helped. Now I have them in back waist and butt area. No help from shots. Anyone have anything similar?

@mjq, The Mayo Clinic website has some information that may explain what's going on.

"Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder. In this condition, pressure on sensitive points in your muscles (trigger points) causes pain in the muscle and sometimes in seemingly unrelated parts of your body. This is called referred pain." -- Myofascial pain syndrome: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/myofascial-pain-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20375444

-- Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) for treating compression and pain: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/myofascial-release-therapy-mfr-for-treating-compression-and-pain/

Did your doctor provide any suggestions for what might be going on?

Yes butt muscle. Got shot and it did nothing. Some very bad knots need to be worked out by physical therapist. It helps.

I’m going to ask my physical therapist about myofascial release therapy for treating my triggerpoints. She has done some trigger point work but never framed it in a reference exactly as release therapy.
