Seeing a hematologist and getting iron infusions. I can’t see my GI doc until Mar of 2022
Sound very similar to me COVID infection more than a bear ago and Pfizer vaccine a year later. I had slight anemia last year. But my iron levels were good. They did not drop dramatically until after the vaccine. I wonder if the Covid-19 infection caused the anemia and the vaccine exacerbated the iron depletion. Did they find any GI bleeding with you? Did you have intense GI symptoms with COVID infection? I did. Please keep me updated on your progress
Very good question. I did see a trend before the vaccine, as I posted. But it very well could be a combo of both. I have made improvements , no longer cold all the time , another 60 days of iron and we will see the outcome. Sure would like to stop the iron , whew
Just an update husband tested low for iron (when trying to give blood) for second time since his Pfizer vaccine. Hopefully he will go check it out!
I am recovering from covid 19. My last day was 22 july but the doctor booked me off for another week. I started on 02 July 2021. On 31 my feet started swelling and very sore. Today i was diagnosed with adema. I did not yet get the vaccine must 30 days
@collins1979- Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I welcome you and hope that I can lead you to some sort of resolution to this. I recently had very bad edema from a medication that I was recently on. My feet looked like duck paddles. After getting off the and drinking a lot of water I finally peed it out. I actually lost 4 lbs!
I'm sure that you know that Covid wreaks havoc on your lungs. It is caused by abnormal fluid metabolism in your lungs. It's called Pulmonary Edema. and is a part of covid pneumonia.
I think that it would be advisable to get tested to the amount of fluid that has built up with a CT scan or whatever else your doctor deems necessary. And I wouldn't wait. Edema can be quite serious. It can indicate a problem with your heart and or your lungs.
There are many trials going on to test covid treatments. It could be one of the drugs that you were given too.
If you haven't contacted your doctor as yet I would ASAP.
Dr prescribe these medication today, Austell furosemide 40mg and acurate pain tablets
Hi. I found this by searching for low iron and Pfizer vaccine. I am seeing a hematologist due to low red blood cell counts and very low iron (ferritin 3). Still waiting on his test results. But it occured to me that my first red cell count was the first 1 month (April) after COVID vaccine. The second and more test showed still issue and iron 4 months after shot. The third showing again 5 months after shot. Started on iron and waiting other test and Dr’s opinion on cause and treatment. Will add my account to the VAERS. Oct tests ok got vaccine in March.
@kirchercl- Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. As you can see you are not alone in this finding after the covid-19 vaccine. What led you to have your blood tested? I was very tired but never thought to have mine checked.
Prior to the covid vaccine had you a history of low iron or any pre-existing conditions?
Perhaps this can help understand more fully about iron deficiency after a covid vaccine.
