Is Covid-19 vaccine safe with iron deficiency anemia?
I am a severe iron deficient female who receives infusions every 3 months and my job is mandating that everyone gets vaccinated and I was just curious if anybody has any experience with severe iron deficiency and the vaccination should a person that has to have iron infusions every 3 months get the vaccine and if anyone has this issue that has received the vaccine what vaccinations do you think is the best for the situation

According to existing guidelines, people with anemia should be vaccinated, but for the best immune response, iron should be as normal as possible.

They stress that people with anemia are at higher risk of serious illness, so vaccination is highly recommended.
There have been a number of discussions about iron deficiency and the Covid vaccines, which is not something I have experienced, so hopefully someone who has will speak up and share their experience.
Have you consulted your primary provider about a what they recommend? Is your anemia stable with the infusions?

4 ReactionsI'm not sure I would say stable it sustains my system for about 2 months then stalls out and my ferritin drops it was a 4 last infusion I am contacting my medical team to see what the recommended course of action is thank you for a response
I am a 50 year old female who has struggled with iron deficiency anemia for years. Currently, my hemoglobin is normal, but iron stores are low. I am taking 325 mg of iron supplements per day. I am also in the obese category. Is the vaccine safe for me or are there any known side effects or dangers associated with this condition?
