Wigs: Prepping for hair loss due to chemo: Where to start?

Sometimes just knowing that you have one if you want it is enough. 😊

This is an informative discussion! Thank you for starting it! While i do not have breast cancer, I do have multiple myeloma, and will be starting chemotherapy in next 10 days. The one drug I will be on won't cause hair loss, they say, but I am wondering about future medication changes.

I got mine at a beauty shop that carried wigs. It is a nice, natural looking bob with a lace front that makes the part look like it has a real scalp underneath.. I don't like wigs, I'd rather wear a cap or scarf, but this one is good. My hair is growing back now and I a thrilled.

I am so glad your hair is coming back. Congratulations on coming out the other side. Don’t be surprised if it is a new color or texture, or both. Mine came back very different, both in color and texture.

I was a blonde all my life, ash blonde with help from
L'oreal at the time my hair fell out. Now I see it is gray. I'm waiting to see if I get the famous chemo curls. No matter what, I love having hair again! Thanks for writing!

Congrats on your hair!!! I was thrilled to see the little bristles returning to my head! Lost my hair 3 times during my extended chemo and bone marrow transplant. When it finally reemerged, this time for keeps, my lifelong super straight hair came in looking much like Christopher Walken. Giggle. Very course texture, standing stick straight in the air like a long flattop as it grew! Sides were baby fine though. Weird. Now, a year later I’m loving my hair. It’s all the same texture and the coarseness keeps it puffy on the top. Never had that luxury before! Enjoy!! The only drawback is now daily I have to style my hair. It was much easier with just a quick wash and pat dry. LOL.

Congratulations! i really admire you for coming out on the other side. Chemo is horrible! It really does feel strange to step in the shower and not automatically bend over to shampoo long hair. I'll be very happy to look like Christopher Walken if that's what I end up with. Right now, I just marvel at having the fuzz. When I was in radiation they told me they could see some hair coming in; I sure hadn't seen any sign of it and figured maybe I'd be one of those who never gets it back..

PS. The American Cancer Society paid for my wig. They can tell you what beauty parlors work with them.

I had long slightly wavy dark brown hair, pre chemo. When it came back it was kinky like bozo the clown and snow white. By the time I was 40 it was grey and silver and curly in places but straight in others. I left it grey but I perm it so that it at least matches. Like you I am very grateful for hair. Now if I could only dance like Christopher Walken. @loribmt .

I don't like the feel of wigs either. I like caps best and sometimes a cute band wrapped around the cap. Now that my hair is coming back, i discovered that some of the head bands look cute wrapped around potted plants and so rth. I think I could probably even use them on wrapped presents.
