Wigs: Prepping for hair loss due to chemo: Where to start?

Posted by ahurlbert30 @ahurlbert30, Aug 13, 2020

Hey all, just prepping for the loss of my hair. I’d like to get a couple wigs but don’t know where to start. I can’t tell online what is decent and what is not.
Thanx

I went to a local wig shop. It was the best decision. The owner specializes in wigs and hair care. Wigs are personal. You should be fitted, taught to put them on and how to care for the. This lady spent two hours with me the first time around. She has a lot of cancer patients, so she was extremely helpful with information, advice, and emotional support. One piece of advice was not to shave your head. Wait until your hair starts to come out and then get a buzz cut. Two and a half years later, I still visit as we have become friends. Go online and try to find someone local. Also, you can get a baseball hat with hair attached. I lived in that for appointments and errands. It is so comfortable and goes on and off in seconds.

It is interesting about “don’t shave your head”. I would agree. I had mine cut to about an inch so that I could donate the length. If I had shaved it, it would have been an itchy mess. When it started coming out, and was everywhere, I just gently pulled it out and never felt a thing.
Anyone here just starting this journey? What would you like to know from the group?
