Extreme pain in legs

Posted by tootie70 @tootie70, Jul 28, 2021

I have extreme pain in my legs that is now continuous. It keeps me awake at night It has significantly impaired my life. I've been to a few doctors over the years, although I usually won't go unless I feel like I'm doing. I've explained the pain to them. I've gotten everything from getting older to planter fascia etc. Ok, that's fine so I did everything they told me to do and still no relief. It's deep, I told one Dr that it felt like my bones we're breaking so he ordered an xray although I told him I did not intend it. It cost me almost $400 after insurance only to be told it want broke. I KNOW THAT! . It still doesn't explain why my bones hurry so bad it makes me cry. I have a high pain tolerance but this is more than I can take. I take three extra strength Tylenol and two Aleve at once every for hours, I use biofreeze and pain patches. I can not keep going like this so any advise would be welcome. It never stops. I've had it for years and now it's just too much for me.

Hi @tootie70, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I have moved your message to the Bones, Joints & Muscles group and the Chronic Pain group. I think you'll get more responses there.

It sounds very distressing that the doctors cannot find a cause for your pain. Is it only in your legs? How long has this been going on?

Hi, and welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your discomfort. I have experienced similar feelings and can relate.

Are you able to pinpoint triggers that provoke symptoms? Might you be willing to share how pain has significantly impaired your life?

Have you tried a pain management doctor? Tylenol doesn’t do anything for me. I started Taking Celebrex and it has changed my life so now I’m able to bare the pain. Keep trying different things. Acupuncture, PT, pain management and something will work. I’m sorry you’re going through so much pain. It is very depressing! I also Use CBD cream with 1% THC. It helps for some temporary relief. The bottle I use Is made by Medaims. Its $65 but it lasts a couple of months so it’s worth every Penny. Good luck!

I also have severe pain in my legs and feet. I can not sleep at night for them hurting. I am told that mine is caused from neuropathy. I take Gabapentin for it but it does not relieve the pain. The only thing I have found to help is hot water and that only helps as long as I am in the hot water. I can feel your pain. My legs and fee swell so much that I am now on 80 mg of Lasix morning and evening and that does not prevent the swelling. I hope you find relief as I know what you are dealing with. Prayers.

Thank you yes hot water helps and I agree it's only beneficial while you're in the hot water as soon as you get out and your legs cool off it starts throbbing again.

There are no triggers because it never goes away the pain is just constantly there from the moment I open my eyes till I close them again at night I can't stand for very long by the time I get home from work I'm in tears. I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on different shoes and insoles thinking that was it but it is not. I don't know what this pain is but it is bone deep and it hurts so bad

Hi, @tootie70 Welcome to Connect!

Are you taking any medications? I have discovered that three medications I take can cause leg pain. My legs hurt 24/7, and are at their worst in the morning. They were really incredibly horrible at one point and I mentioned it to a friend who for some reason always seems to know a lot of medical information. She immediately asked me if I was on a statin. I was, so I spoke to my doctor and he reduced the dose from 20mg a day to 10mg a day. They still hurt but are manageable now.

They were hurting before I was on the statin so I think a different medication is causing that and now a newer medication has made the pain somewhat worse but I can live with it once I get beyond the morning. I would check side effects of any medications you are taking. You may be surprised to discover that some of them could be causing your pain. Often it is a "rare" side effect but I tend to get those rare side effects. It is definitely not a case of knowing that is a side effect and then thinking I have it because as with the statin, I don't generally check that thoroughly into side effects because I don't want to be influenced by them.
