Posted by scpartain @scpartain, May 13, 2021

I filed a VAERS report online describing my experience of contracting Polymyalgia Rheumatica after receiving the Pfizer vaccine.

Here is the Web Site for those who wish to look at it. https://www.hrsa.gov/cicp/
There are a number of Covid claims filed, but no record of resolution/payment I could find yet. You can see the table here: https://www.hrsa.gov/cicp/cicp-data#table-2

Here are the standards for payment under CICP: "The CICP is the payer of last resort and can only reimburse or pay for medical expenses or lost employment income that are not covered by other third-party payers. To date, the CICP has paid compensation for 29 CICP claims, totaling more than $6 million. An additional 10 CICP claims were eligible for compensation after a review of the required medical records and documentation; however, in these cases there were no eligible reported medical expenses or lost employment income for the CICP to compensate." So it would cover uninsured medical expenses and lost income for those who can prove that the vaccine caused their illness. It does not cover pain and suffering, sorry to say.

I havent recieved the vaccines yet but I have had covid and I am still experiencing symptoms new and old. Im confused. Can't breathe, I have a cough, and can't get rid of it. I'm swelling up in the legs and feet and in the face. this has been going on for a year. All hospitals are completely overloaded here in springfield Missouri. I no longer have a doctor. I'm severely depressed. My youngest son is 27. Hes always been healthy up till 2019.He has cogestive heart failure. His heart is worn out. No one can tell me why. I don't really have much to look forward to actually. Im a christian and wont hurt myself but has crossed my mind. I wouldnt wish this on anyone. I pray alot. I really feel horrible for anyone who's had a more tragic life.

Does Mayo have a special program to help Long Haulers with their symptoms? The University of Utah Medical Center just started a program designed to help folks in your situation.

I am so sorry to hear you are still suffering symptoms for so long. I would lie to welcome you to Mayo Connect, a community of people living with a wide variety of diseases and conditions, who support each other along the way. We try to be informed medical consumers, and our own best advocates in our care. We are not medical professionals, so not able to provide medical advice. We can tell you what has worked for us (or not) and provide you with information and conversation about your questions.

If you want to read about how some people on Connect are dealing with "long haul" Covid, click this link: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/long-hauler/

Here is a link to a group called the Survivor Corps, which can help you find some help locally. Please do not be afraid because Covid is still active - it is important to get your own health under control: https://www.survivorcorps.com/

Here is some info from Mayo about long-term effects: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-long-term-effects/art-20490351

I think you need to find a doctor to address your ongoing symptoms. I know it is hard to look for a new doc, but it sounds like your son needs you, and you need to get help for you so you can help him. Do you have a friend or pastor who can help you to find a doctor?

Sue

@sue16833 @becsbuddy Becky will be sorry she brought me into this conversation. LOL You’ll both need a cup of coffee and a comfy chair.
I could have reduced this to two sentences. Get the vaccine ASAP if your doctor says it’s ok. And…Pfizer. But where’s the fun in that!

Hi Sue, It’s my understanding that you’re concerned about possibly upsetting your immune system by getting the vaccine. And also which vaccine would be better for not causing a problem. Well, since I received an entirely new immune system from having a stem cell transplant I’ve really gotten an education on immunity and autoimmunity.

The immune system is your body’s army of defense against disease and infection. The entire premise of a vaccine is to initiate a response within your immune system to recognize those disease cells in the future and launch an attack. You want a response to the Covid vaccine so that your immune system can seek and destroy the virus if you’re exposed. It’s really cool to watch this happen under an electron microscope. It looks like Pac-Man! Munch munch…
So don’t be alarmed if you do have a fairly normal response to the vaccine such as a sore arm, slightly elevated temp and fatigue. It generally goes away in a day or so.

However, people with a pre-existing neurological diagnosis caused by an autoimmune condition such as PMR, PN, Shingles, etc.. can have slight autoimmune reaction. It can cause an awakening of the symptoms of their disease but is usually slight and disappears.

I had such a reaction after my first Pfizer dose. After physical evaluations from my transplant doctor, neurologist and an allergist, all 3 cleared me to get my second dose as the risk of actually getting Covid outweighed any other risk factors. They were also supportive of the Pfizer vaccine for me.

Before my 2nd vaccine, I was given a prescription for steroids. Not to take but to have on hand should my symptoms return after the 2nd dose. The doctors were not concerned that the steroids would interfere with the vaccine at all. They wanted to calm the auto immune reaction should there be one.

So for you, Sue, being on 2mg per day is very low but it may help ward off any potential issues with your PMR. ***If your doctor has given you permission to get the vaccine***it would be really in your best interest to do so as soon as possible to jumpstart your immunity! Continue on the Covid protocol of wearing a mask, hand washing, etc…

And anecdotally, from a tally of friends & relatives in my orbit, there seemed to be fewer issues from the Pfizer…for no scientific reason! They all have the same end result. Protection!

“Jumpstart her immune system” with a Mrna gene therapy with zero long term studies as to the effects on healthy folks, let alone someone with PMR...
Sounds like a recipe for Russian roulette with a single shot rifle.
I would suggest she reads ALL The pros and cons for these vaccines before making this possibly life altering choice.
