Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?

I am 8 weeks post TKR and have had this very tight band around my knee since week one. My Dr at 6 wks says it is normal and will go away. Has anyone else had this and did it go away and when?

surgery 07/07/2020: I am 12 months out. I have a constant tightness (feels like a blood pressure cuff) around the knee. Doc wants me to have a nuclear bone scan.

Hi John, Thank you for the welcome. To be honest I cannot do very much with the leg at all. 45 years ago I received lower leg surgery twice due to a car accident and a failed 1st attempt, and then the hospital damaged my ankle bones so I have very little movement in my foot, over the years, this has resulted in only being able to walk with my foot off centre to the left. My knee pain was not addressed for 10 years, which when they finally decided to x-ray my knee it was too late and a FKR was my only option. My knee had not been bent for at last 5 years prior to the surgery so with the complications of my ankle being almost frozen, exercise is very difficult. Walking is not easy as I also have problems now with my right hip. I can bend my knee to a sitting position but that's about it. Saying that, I have found that when its humid or warm the tightness in the knee can be unbearable and in the winter, the knee just aches. My surgeon does not understand why but says many of his patients tell him the same story. They tell me I need my ankle fused but don't want to do it as the screws are still in my lower leg after 45 years and it would now be a very complicated surgery. My knee is permanently swollen and I have some nerve damage on the left outer side. I guess its just something we learn to live with.

This response which I think happens all too often for any lingering, unpleasant side effects from surgery is a cop out. If there is a high percentage of patients who have the same unpleasant symptoms work on figuring out why!!! For pete's sake!

This response which I think happens all too often for any lingering, unpleasant side effects from surgery is a cop out. If there is a high percentage of patients who have the same unpleasant symptoms work on figuring out why!!! For pete's sake!

My doctor will not even comment on it. I am 12 months out. He is sending me for a nuclear bone scan later this week.

My next option is a genicular knee nerve block. The pain management doctor and the second ortho said we're going down the route of "what it's not."

No, it's not the hamstring. That runs down the back of your leg from your behind. It's like someone put a tourniquet right under your knee cap running from the back to the front. 24/7

Hi , I am 7 months out and I severely experienced that . It is much better but not 100% gone yet. I exercise every single day and I keep stretching and bending it and pushing myself . The other thing is I have one of those type of floor bikes for lateral . It helps me a lot . It loosens it . I use it every other day . These humid and rainy days are hard so many of them all the time . I’m in Michigan . The bike machine is called the scoop if interested . I’m not a sales person just a patient that was in so much pain and my bend was slower and I was so frustrated . I am so glad that I have no more pain . It took a good 5 months before I could use it. There are exercises too for lateral muscles . My understanding is it builds muscle around your knees .

Plan B is a nerve block in my back. He thinks there might be a nerve running down my leg that is involved. Not sure if i will go for Plan B,C or any other at this point. They just don't seem to get it. It's not pain, it's tightness.

Sounds like I’m in the same situation. Had a nerve lock in back and not worked… I’m waiting to see consultant again??! Total empathy with you.☹️
