COPD Panic Attacks: Getting harder to leave the house

Posted by carolannz @carolannz, Mar 7, 2019

It's getting harder by the day for me to leave the house. I've had Emphysema for over 20 years and live alone now. I have medication for anxiety and panic but so often I find an excuse or way to not leave the house. I don't like to drive but when I get going I'm okay if it's familiar to me. I worry about getting the flu because I feel it would be the en of me. I get exhausted fighting with myself just to meet my family for lunch. I do not want to go out after dark. Help

Right now my doctor has started me on ANORA 2 MONTH PERCRIPTION along with Albatros sulfate is my emergency inhaler I have 12 days left on my anoro I haven't had to use my emergency inhaler yet. I'm at the ymca I can barley do 4.1 for 25 minutes on the treadmill. I'm also planing on quitting the ANORO after my 30 days is up. My breathing test came back very good you know how this works good days bad days. What is your opinion about trying to quit THE ANORA after my 30 day prescription is up?

@kozm- If your doctor prescribed Anoro Ellipta it was for a specific reason and you would have to discuss this with him. I think that when we feel better we tend to think that we don't need the medications that have made us feel this way anymore. If you are feeling well and exercising and your breathing test came back as very good then I would say- isn't this telling you something? It's working!!

I'm thinking that perhaps you might not be breathing well enough. Do you do pursed-lip breathing, especially when you exercise? About 15-20 minutes prior to any exercise I use my rescue inhaler as a way of helping me breathe more easily. My pulmonologist suggested doing this and there is a difference.

Why do you want to stop your medication? You began asking about SOB anxiety. How often are you experiencing these?

Good morning Mike. It's very hard not to be frustrated and angry when anxiety hits. It's my tendency too, but not fair to my husband or others. Try and figure out how to calm it down and then do it. In the long run, perhaps your anxiety won't be as bad. If you aren't getting enough support went his happens then it's time to have a heart-to-heart with your family. When I'm inclined to do this I hold up a finger and wait a couple of seconds for me to calm down.

Let me know, when you have time how the breathing works for you!
