@lindam272

So I called my doctor's office and said that I wanted a chest xray done. It's been 6 months since I've been on the meds and want to see what that looks like when I go back for my July checkup. I got a call back from the nurse stating that the doctor wouldn't okay the order because it wasn't medically necessary. I said to her that I wasn't asking him if I should have one. I was asking him to order it. She repeated that he wouldn't order it because it wasn't medically necessary. Seriously? Is it unreasonable to want to see what is happening in my lungs after 6 months? Does this sound unreasonable? Maybe I'm making a big deal out of nothing. Not happy. Linda M

Lindam272....did previous Chest Xrays show anything??? Are you feelin any different ? as noted by KAtherine, did he order mycobacterium culture? TDrell

Hi Linda, don't know the answer to that. I have the opposite problem. I
feel like I am x-rayed waaayyyy tooo much! I am beginning to think my health
issues are due to an over abundance of x-rays. -Terri M.

The culture is the key thing here. Ideally three of them on consecutive
mornings according to the experts at the conference. (can take two yourself at
home two days prior to appt, keep refidgerated until appt for the third) The Drs
at the conference want to make this a standard procedure for culturing MAC in
the future.

I haven't seen any previous xrays since being diagnosed, only CT scans. I know I have had them done, back when I had Valley Fever in 2008 and I think I had one done somewhere in between then and now. I had 2 nodes in my left lung in the 2008 one. I feel better so wanted to see if it would show improvement on the xray. I thought it would be helpful mentally if I saw improvement as I continue to take these meds.

I will mention this at my appt. I had a culture taken a couple of months ago but it was just on the day I went in for my bloodwork - not 3 days in a row.

Linda, the three in a row is not the standard right now. It is what the
experts are hoping will be in the future. They said we can brings our own
refrigerated samples in and request they be tested also.

Hi Linda, I contracted Valley Fever also when I moved to Tucson Az. Got it
the first year I lived there. It gave me several nodules too. BTW, I made the
switch to baths only. It was you that said you no longer shower, right? -Terri
M.

Hi, Terri M., My lungs are really scarred. I've had pneumonia twice and Valley Fever since moving to AZ. I moved here in 1983 and contracted VF in 2008 so had quite a run before it got me. I did switch to baths only and I wash my hair in the kitchen sink. Linda M

I had pneumonia pretty bad at age 18, then several more bouts in my 20's,
Valley Fever at age 33, then  MAC at age 46, pseudomonas at age
57..........sigh..........I wash my hair in the sink too.

@lindam272, Linda, interesting! Mayo Clinic ONLY does X Rays .. with occasional CT scans .. you might ask why. CT scans are WAY more expensive! Where you go .. do they have their OWN CT machine .. sorry BUT their own "money maker" to bill your insurance company? Sorry to be a doubting Thomas but the thought occurred to me! With my husband's health issues I have SEEN this type of thing over and over ..sad but true. If they invested in a machine .. it has to pay for itself! YOU are the employer .. if YOU want an Xray .. request it ! Myself I had NOT had a CT scan since 2014 .. and WANTED one 6/17 so requested it .. and got it! YOU are in the drivers seat with your health care .. YOU are your own Best Advocate! Do what you think is best! Hugs to you! Katherine
