I am old and crippled up
I am 75. I can not sit, stand, or walk. I can not ride in a car. I can find no one NO ONE to help me. I worked all my life and ow I am crippled up and can not do anything. Doctors will not help me, the VA will not help me, Medicare will not help me, AARP will not help me. Right now I am just trying to find some organization that will help me get back up on my feet. Anybody got any ideas? Thank you for reading my gripe.

Can you be specific as to why you can’t sit, stand, walk or ride in a car?
Why did you have 3 brain surgeries?
As far as your back is concerned have you consulted with a neurosurgeon or Orthopedic surgeon?
Do you have any other type of health issues that may preclude you from doing the things you mentioned?
What caused your paralysis?
Jake
I can not sit, stand or walk because of severe back pain. The longer I sit or stand, the more I sit or stand the more it hurts. Sorry, I have never had a brain surgery.Yes, I have seen neurosurgeon. They just won't help.I have a right leg that just seems to turn off sometimes.. This causes me to fall.
Hi @okwrangler, I add my welcome as well. It sounds like you primarily need someone in your court to help advocate for the help you need. Have you considered seeing a social worker? Social workers can be so helpful in connecting you with resources and professionals who can help.
Colleen’s suggestion of speaking with a social worker could be a good first step for getting help. Call your towns Area Agency on Aging. Ask how you can connect with a social worker. Many doctor’s offices also have social workers.
I understand that you cant go anywhere and barely move about the house. Who helps you with groceries and meal preparation and keeping your space clean?
i will call social services tomorrow. I will let you know what they say.
My wife does everything she can to help me. Sometimes I feel like she does more than should be expected. We have been married 54 years.
Thank you.
I did call the Oklahoma Department of Social Services this morning. The only advice they gave me was to call 9-1-1
@okwrangler. You called Social Services today and they told you to call 911.
How did you phrase your first statement to them? Did you simply say you couldn't walk, sit. stand etc., as you first told us? They may have assumed you were on the floor because you had fallen and needed 911 to send an ambulance. You need to take control of your situation and ask for what you NEED. How about calling them again and simply saying something like, "I'd like to be referred to a social worker." Then they would have something concrete to work with. Please try this, and please don't give up.
I hear you when you are so desperate for help but it's unproductive to cast out vague statements without saying strongly what you need and want. Can your wife phone for you? She might be able to be more objective when telling them of your situation and actually stating that you NEED a social worker.
I explained that what I was looking for is someone that would advise me asto how to get help and/or therapy to get back up on mt feet. They asked if I wanted to sigh up for Medicaid and I said no. Then they told me that the only advice they had for me was to call 9-1-1.
First, I was on hold over thirty minutes before I talked to anyone. Then I explained that I was looking for someone that would advise me as to where I can go for help and/or therapy. Their advice was that I call 9-1-1.
Your comment from Mayo Clinic came through as only a series of letters and numbers. Can you just tell us what you were saying?
I know that this must be a very difficult time for you. I like the advice that @artist01 gave about calling and asking for a social worker to speak to and help you.
Why did you say no to Medicaid?
