@godfather2- I am not a medical professional and would never second guess your doctor. If you want a second opinion now would be the time. You have to be comfortable with who you see. If you trust him then that's a big plus.

My pulmonologist has been watching a ground glass opacity nodule in my lung for 11 years. It has now reared its head in the last year and grown significantly. After seeing two pulmonologists and three surgeons, they all say it has to come out by removing the lobe it is in.

Hi Texasgal, welcome. I'm sure this is distressing, but also good to know that you've been watched closely and that the health professionals all agree. What lobe will be removed? What questions do you have of others who have had a lobectomy?

no he said mayo is the best of the best they have a very big reputation to uphold and for them to give me a printed document saying no follow up needed then if it turned into more they would be held liable so i cant imagine they would put themself on the line in that way
I also was just told I have patchy ground-glass infiltrate in posterior periphery of the upper lobe , new since exam and has inflammatory/infectious appearance. plus trace tight pleural and /or thickening. not quite sure what this is but doctor said they will wait and watch is that normal for this ? any info. will be helpful.

I have been followed with CT - first every 6 months, now annually for same.
Ground glass appearance could mean scarring from an infection- I had just had Influenza A that year- or it could be suspicious for cancer in smokers and former smokers. I’m a former smoker.
@godfather2- I would say that he is conservative. He's not rushing into anything. I hope that your next scheduled CT is in 6 months.

1. Use of robotic arm vs VATS
2. Blood loss (cannot use blood from blood bank)
3. Recovery time
