Good afternoon and welcome to Mayo Connect. We are a community of people living with a wide variety of conditions and diseases, trying to live our best lives, and to help each other along the way by sharing our experiences. We are not medical professionals, and cannot give medical advice, but we can tell you what has worked for us, point you to resources, and help you to be and informed consumer and your own best advocate with your care providers.

Can you tell us a little more about what led you to ask this question? Do you have a history of anemia or another blood disorder?
Sue

I just found out I have iron deficiency anemia and am being scheduled for a colonoscopy to check for internal bleeding. I have never had an issue with this in my life, in fact I always had excellent hemoglobin/iron levels even pre menopause. Interestingly I developed sudden onset tinnitus within 10 days of receiving 2nd dose Pfizer (1st dose AZ). I had not had any blood work until last week and now I have read where anemia and tinnitus can be related. Just started iron supplements, has anyone had their situation improve through supplements? Thanks.

I developed Anemia after my second booster because I am a Type 1 Diabetic and also 70 years old. I had to have Iron transfusions. The problem is my Dr.(Hematologist) told me not to take anymore boosters. We are heading into a possible Covid surge again and I don't know what I can do to protect myself since the new Omicron booster is not an option for me.

My Iron went down to a 2 out of now where’s recently. Only possible explanation at present outside of cancer, is that calcium may have been blocking absorption. Waiting for next draw to see if iron levels go
Up. I’ve always had slight anemia but never even had symptoms or needed to supplement all that much. My friend is experiencing a similar issue and doing transfusions. My husband got Myocarditis from the vaccine and was in the hospital for a week and on bed rest for 3 weeks. Just figured I’d look and see if something new was coming out with the vaccine info related to this…

After receiving the Pfizer vaccine boosters, I have had low iron. I have never had low iron in my life and I am 58 years old.

Hello, Sue; I read that you checked VAERS and found no reports of iron deficiency connected with the mRNA vaccines. I find that discouraging because soon after receiving the two Pfizer vaccines I tested for low iron and ferritin levels. At first my PCP thought that I had some history of low iron levels but upon checking my med history he admitted that it was an anomaly. I mentioned that the ferritin operates in the body via mRNA protocols. He said that he did not think that the two were connected.

I had to go for IV iron supplementation (Venofer); I asked the hematologist his opinion of the serum iron levels being affected by the mRNA vaccines. He agreed with my PCP that there was likely no connection. I chose to enter a comment on VAERS, indicating that two of my Dr's did not think that the two events were connected - BUT I wanted to leave a record of my experience on VAERS just in case there were other anomalous serum iron cases.

I have a history of borderline pancytopenia in any case; of course there is no proof that the mRNA shots have caused any iron anomalies in recipients but VAERS would seem to be the place to accumulate such data.

I recovered following the Venofer injections in 2021. Now, in May/June of 2023 I am once again suddenly experiencing low iron/ferritin serum levels - and notable fatigue {I am 80 in three weeks.} My PCP and I discussed this issue yesterday and he will likely order another series of iron Venofer injections.

I realize that there may be no established connection between the mRNA vaccines and the body's iron levels; IF there is to be a connection established it might well be through such forums as this.
