The Wages of a missed Neb session.

Posted by thumperguy @thumperguy, Jun 3, 2021

Here I am at 10:30 Thursday evening, aerosolized saline pestering my throat. Later getting to this chore tonight; tuckered, secondary to deciding earlier today that some soil in my yard would better suit me if was at a different spot in my yard. I’ve known for a long time that when one begins to rearrange the surface of the planet it almost immediately becomes very labor intensive. That in turn leads to my body feeling like Beef Jerky looks, all wizened and gnarly.

My question: how often, if ever, do you skip a treatment session?

I miss mine about every two weeks. It's always at night and I get up and do one immediately in the morning.

I’ve only missed a treatment 2 or 3 times in nearly two years of doing my airway clearance twice a day. The prospect of getting sick and/or going back on the Mac medication is enough for me to try to find the time no matter what’s going on.

Like Tina, I try to catch up ASAP if I miss a treatment.

To be honest, I miss a treatment way too often. First, unless in a flare, I only neb/clear once a day and get by with huff-coughing to bring up mucus the rest of the time. Second, I confess that life gets in the way - I missed several in the past week helping our daughter (she's a capable adult who currently lives with us while fixing a house to move in - had a bad fall, smashed wrist, ER, surgery, etc last weekend.)

She was under a tight deadline on some of the work so we called in the cavalry and spent 4 very long days getting the work done. I only treated every other day, but was moving so much and so fast that the mucus just kept going when I stopped, and I coughed it up. I did continue both my inhalers though.

So I do miss a bit, but double down if I have any symptoms of an asthma flare or am exposed to any respiratory bug (my common triggers for a bronch flare.)

I have missed a couple now and again in the last 5 years since starting this. When I traveled to Australia in 2019 to visit my daughter, I missed three in row!! But in general, I've not missed more than one. Sometimes it just can't be helped.

I usually neb once a day but I always miss a day here and there. Sometimes life gets in the way. Nan

I love this forum. I wondered if anyone else ever missed a treatment. I try to neb and vest twice a day and do pretty well making the treatment schedule. However have at times missed at least one and not too often miss both. Like others have said, will get one in as soon as possible after missing it. But glad to know I am not the only one.........

I’m new to this but very quickly I stopped doing the aerobica after nebulizing saline 7%. It just wasn’t doing as much and I got soooo bored.
Now that I figured out how to connect the aerobica to my nebulizer, I get more up and I save time. Exercise doesn’t seem to bring it up.
Two days ago, I moved to a temporary apt while my house is being built. So I skipped my nebulizing. I’ve been eating terribly and not riding bike😢
But I’ll get back to a healthier lifestyle soon….. I hope. I’m so good at rationalizing. And going to CA in two weeks will give me another excuse. Oy

I am trying to convince my wife, based on the comments I see here, the treatments might be beneficial to her condition. Right now, she is not on any medications, although she once was and the sides of the BIG 3 was terrible. Her doctor prescribed the nebulizer and the AFFLOVEST. She will use the vest occasionally, but yet to start the nebulizer. The only things I can do is try to continue encourage her, but it is left to her to accept the encouragement a positive...Being a Caregiver is not the the easiest undertaking in the world, because now you are dealing with two attitudes, the person needing the care and that of the one trying to give...

The side effects from the big 3 were terrible for me as well and I have permanent hearing loss and tinnitus so the time and effort (and cost) of airway clearance is well worth it to me.
My husband would agree with you on the caregiver aspect of this. I am highly motivated and do everything but the impact on relationships and lifestyle as a result is significant.

I was advised to neb with saline 7% & do postural drainage twice daily; knew that would kill all desire to live, nebulized for long time once daily, now down to 4-5 days a week, good enough I find. But I combine the saline with Reduced L-Glutathione Plus from theranaturals.com recommended by a naturopath - would've gone with gold standard liquid Glutathione but too expensive for me. Generally: I turned down "cocktail" 3 years ago, have been going alternative with exception of the saline. Have had good enough 3 years given I've had the condition almost 27 years now & nothing helps enough with energy where it's hurt me the most.
