Has anyone experienced internal vibrations?

Posted by redladyjoni @redladyjoni, Nov 26, 2018

I started having the only way I can explain it is internal vibrations. I've had them for 3 months now, I went to t hihe ER and they told me it was anxiety. A doctor diagnosed me at a clinic as having Lyme disease I've started a 21-day prescription of Doxycycline I'm on day 7. I went to a psychiatrist a week ago to get something because of my nerves are just over the brink. He prescribed me Gabapentin and Valium I've only been on them a few days.
Has anyone experienced these internal vibrations?I have them almost 24/7 chest neck stomach from the hips down. I have more lab tests that should be in today, but the doctor's office said that they would not call unless there was some abnormality in the lab work.

Well, I’m glad my posts at least connected with how you are feeling.

I’ve been meaning to report back more often with “progress” and current condition.

I’m at the 18 month mark now, and I feel like I’m basically at an overall steady state. Lots of weekly fluctuations up and down with some being almost perfect and some being pretty nasty. I’m at a down point now with my legs buzzing non stop, other large muscles popping on and off a few times through the day, tinnitus going, and bad sleep from the muscles working which causes sweating and restlessness.

One interesting thing (minor in the scope of things except it adds to the issue of not good sleep) is that I notice on bad weeks I have non-stop CRAZY dreams. Just bizarre stuff. When I’m feeling better I almost never dream.

The good news is, I’m still active and walking 7-20 miles per week thanks to golf.

Mornings are tough due to crappy sleep, and I always feel like absolute crap when I wake up. Aching and burning skin, leg muscle aches. Just like a got beat up while sleeping.

Knock on wood, none of the nastier symptoms have been back lately (more violet night tremors; tremors in the chest, head, or throat; globus; challenging vocal cord control; weak arm/hand strength).

I have not altered my 3x300/day gabapentin. Vitamin levels are all strong in recent blood work, but I take the mag/calc since it is fine for me anyway.

Personally hoping that I start making progress again towards further healing, but who knows.

For you, hope you make progress soon. It’s a tough, wild ride. Do NOT wait over a year to see a neuro. You at least need the visit for your own mental health. Not sure what area you are in but don’t give up with finding an appointment. Worst case, like I told in my history, go to a good hospital’s ER and get in front of a neuro if you reach a breaking point like I did. I simply couldn’t go on, so I made the choice to do that. In my case, I HAD an active neuro relationship, but he admitted he was out of ways to help and encouraged me to see another.

Best of luck to all.

Hi and thx for posting all your symptoms. I could be your twin
I have them all. My neurologist thinks it’s restless body syndrome. I started taking the gabapentin but had negative side effects from it. So I stopped it I only took it for six weeks and it really didn’t do much for me and I was at a lower dose. I’m really not good with medicines like this especially gabapentin where you become dependent on it and have to titrate off of it or get withdrawals. I am hoping To get some answers this coming week I’m having a brain MRI and then I’m seeing also a rheumatologist because my blood work was high in the ANA to rule out lupus. We shall see.

Hello @deydria and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'm sorry to hear that you are having these internal vibrations but I'm glad that reading the posts on this thread has been helpful to you. It's always good to share with others who are in the same situation.

I look forward to getting to know you as you are now part of the Connect community. Would you like to share a bit more about your symptoms? For example, when did they start, do they happen continually, or most often when you are tired, etc.

So it's a bit of a long story with my symptoms:

-Around Nov 2019 I had a flu. I think this is important because I hardly ever get it and it might have knocked my immune system down. I kept coughing for like 2 months after that.
(It could even have possibly been an earlier variant of Covid because I was working as a flight attendant so more chances of catching something at that time).

-April 2020 I got sick, but it was very unclear. It started out as lower back pain, but I didn't do anything to pull any muscles or anything like that so it felt very random to me. I ended up just spending like 2 weeks in bed basically treating it like one would a pulled back, I even thought I was getting better, but then it suddenly got worse and the pain travelled to my abdomen and it was just the worse pain I've ever felt. I started to vomit as well. I ended up in the ER. My blood test results came back with high platelets, neutrophils and leukocytes, basically I was fighting an infection...however the doctors somehow missed this and sent me home and I was not given a Covid swab. To this day I wonder if I was treated there and then if I'd not have my current issues. So I spent another few weeks in bed. This is when I felt some version of these vibrations - like my body had this electrical current of a feeling going through my body. I have no idea what was going on, but it eventually went away so I figured I was healed from whatever happened.

-April 2020, I noticed that I was starting to get a muscle twitch on an area of my belly which I thought was odd because I never had any sorts of twitches overall. For the next few months I noticed there were odd dizzy spells here and there, my heart felt like it would speed up at times. At that point my blood tests were fine and I was told it must be just anxiety.

-Sept 2020, I noticed that my jaw felt tight, like all my teeth felt tight. I thought maybe it was my wisdom teeth and ignored it and it went away after 2 weeks.

-Nov 2020, this is when it started to get funky. I got headaches and I never get headaches. I had a rash on my thigh, swollen lymph nodes on my neck and there were days when I felt feverish, though it was low grade so I guess it was a viral infection (but still odd because it seemed like a progression of the issues I had previously) It progressed to the worst headaches I've ever experienced in my life, I thought I was going to die. My blood pressure also went up, so I don't know if it was my heart affecting my headaches or my head pressure affecting my heart. My head felt like it was getting crushed from the inside (specifically the golf ball size area behind my nose, above my mouth palate and back fo my head) and I noticed that my brain felt slow and my speech even started to slur and my lips and mouth palate felt numb at times. The head pressure felt worse when I would lie down so I would sometimes sleep upright. Nothing helped. I was in the ER twice and was told it was just a tension headache. I had a CT scan done and it didn't show anything. So I basically sat at home like a zombie waiting for an appointment with a neurologist. There were times when I felt this buzzing inside my body again, like electrical, reminiscent of what I felt back in May 2020. I also so weak, I'd lose my breathe after like 3 steps. My ears also felt 'full'.

-January 2021, when I saw the neurologist, they told me take Magnesium, Vitamin B-2 and Coq10. Standard stuff for migraines according to google. By that time my blood pressure had gone done to normal and I had seen a cardiologist who told me I was fine. My brain fog was a bit better at this point as well, none of that slurred speech stuff, but I still suffered. I got an MRI booked for March.
My headaches seemed to be getting better/my pain tolerance had increased? but that is when these vibrations started! They seemed to have slowly replaced the headaches in a way. My ears still felt full and crinkly still. At one point I went to the walk-clinic and was given ear drops for an ear infection which helped relieved some ear pain for a couple weeks.

-March 2021. I got my MRI results and they were fine so I was dismissed. When I told the neurologist about the odd sensations of these vibrations, he told me it wasn't his area of expertise as he only dealt with headaches (even though the vibrations felt like they were IN my head). So that was that. Back to the drawing board. At this point I had the VNG test done and also developed tinnitus in one ear.

Basically ever since then I seemed to seem to have healed minus the static sound in one ear and am now just left with these vibrations that would fluctuate in intensity and around my body. Sometimes I still feel my head pressure, but nowhere near as bad as before. The vibrations would feel like this rumbling sensation like you're on a tractor riding along a bumpy road, or an earthquake happening, there's not particular rhythm to it. It would mostly be the back of my head (and where I felt head pressure with the headaches and like back of my tongue and throat) and the bottom half of my spine, like my tailbone, buttock area, I could feel these rumbles going up or down, where 75% is intense in one area and the rest is more mild. Later on it moved into my legs and calfs and sometimes I could feel it in my toes. It's such an unpleasant feeling, I learned to somewhat tolerate it, but I can't deal with it is in my head which is like 80% of the time.

Hello @deydria,

These intermittent symptoms have been going on for some time, now. You said that you've seen a neurologist who has not been able to help you. I would certainly encourage you to get some second opinions.

While I'm not a medical professional, if this were me, I might consider seeing an Infectious Disease Specialist and perhaps an Endocrinologist as well. I mention the Infectious Disease Specialist because you possibly had an infection that was not treated at some point when you had blood work at the ER. I also mention an Endocrinologist because this type of specialist has a wider understanding of how all of the body systems work together. An endocrinologist often has the ability to put a lot of puzzling symptoms together and come up with a diagnosis. Also, an ENT specialist might help with tinnitus.

Do you live near a research-orientated medical facility? I'm thinking of a university medical school or a facility like Mayo Clinic. If so and if this were my experience, I would definitely go there and see their specialists.

Any problem that is long-standing needs an opinion where the doctors work together. Do you live near these types of medical facilities?

I also have the internal vibrations but my doctor called them tics. Anyone else told this?

Hi
Did your Lyme test come out positive? I’m only asking because my Doctor also thought I had Lyme but test was negative twice. Gabapentin and Valium that’s a lot of meds for Lyme disease. And a hard withdrawal also . Be careful with these meds. Maybe get a second opinion from a neurologist.

I am new to this forum and I’m not sure if you are still having the issue, I had a similar situation for two years and it was finally resolved. I realize your post is nine months old I’m just curious if you’re still having the same vibration issue.

Here is my story… About two years I developed this vibration from my rectum all the way to my head. The vibration became so loud and uncomfortable, the doctors explained it as being stuck between fight and flight. Anxiety was awful. I was given Xanax, Ativan, gabapentin, antidepressants and Ambien to sleep. The noise was so loud I went to the emergency room twice because I thought I was having a heart attack. I went to a cardiologist, neurologist, G.I. doctor, Endo doctor, PCP. Everyone just gave me a pill.
Finally… I went to a place here in Phoenix with my husband because he wanted to lose weight. Although I only had 10 to 15 pounds to lose I filled out the paperwork just as he did. The doctor looked at my husband and said your wife needs to be here more than you. I was very fidgety, I couldn’t hold still. was constantly shaking my leg. I figured I had tried everything else why not give this a try. I was desperate! It’s called a Candida cleanse (goggle it, too much to explain here) and apparently the noise was coming from my digestive system. It needed a break. I am happy to report that vibrations are totally gone! In addition to that, I no longer need my Metformin and I no longer need my blood pressure medication.!! My gut is clean my body is feeling amazing although the last two years have been hell I can honestly say I feel better than I have in years.😊 I hope this helps someone!!
Food will heal you or kill you!! I’m a believer now.

Hello, unfortunately I gave up on proper eating and the vibration sensation came back not to the extent that it was before. I started another Candida cleanse two weeks ago and I can already feel a difference. Clearly my G.I. system is very sensitive to a bad diet And that’s where the vibration/tremors are coming from. I’ll send you a picture of the book I am using this time.
