Grid/Net shaped rash
My boyfriend gets these net-shaped patches on his back once in a while, according to his mom it's been happening since he was a teen. What is it? It doesn't hurt or itch. He takes a medication called Modecate.

Hello @nickkynl and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Thank you for joining the conversation to share that you also have experience with what other members like @rush and @karenamara have shared.
It sounds like you have traced your steps back through your physical environment to see if anything could've caused this pattern to appear. I wonder if you've thought anymore about any other changes that could coincide with the rash appearing?
Do you have any symptoms as a result of the rash or just the pattern?
I had no other symptoms but that area was numb, it was also not raised or indented. I was seen by a doctor and they had no idea what it was either, it did not make sense to then
I'm here because I just found this same type of rash on my back. My boyfriend says it was there yesterday, too, but I don't know when it started. I'm 32, female, no history of eczema. I've had weird rash patterns before but not like this.
I do have a chair with a diamond back pattern, so it could be that, but I don't understand how that could have done it unless I had my bare skin against it. The rash is in the middle of my back, always covered by a shirt.
Also, if it was the chair, why are the red spots showing up only in the negative space of the grid? The center of the diamond, not the grid part, is red. You'd think it would be the other way around if it was a reaction. And I sit in those chairs often and have never seen this before. I don't even think the grid has the same dimensions as the one on the chair.
I can't believe there isn't more information on this, since other people have experienced it too. I haven't yet seen a convincing possible diagnosis from a medical professional. I wonder if it's an autoimmune type thing.
Hello @dontmentionit and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. This rash is certainly a mystery to not only you but other members as well. @gardenjunkie mentioned Puss Caterpillar but I haven't seen anyone else come back with more information on that. Have you ever heard of this?
The cause of the grid pattern remains unsolved, despite there having been a reasonably extensive investigation into possible causes, see the RGMP Dossier at https://payhip.com/b/jnIc
RGMP presents like an allergy test and commonly appears on the middle to upper left hand side of the spine.
Same thing happened to me for the first time. I am going to dermatologist this week. I will let you know what he says. Does not itch or hurts
