Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

I have now taken to my frontage road as my favorite walkway, it’s flat and I can travel up and down it with one boot/shoe and my other foot laced into a tennis shoe. Ready for some sunshine and more healing so I can take a more leisurely walk, I know patience is not my best quality.
Happy walking today to all of you!!
Hello, Sue, world traveler....by now you're close to better breathing weather and your good walks.
@sueinmn, @jude07, @becsbuddy, @gingerw, @fiesty76 and everyone...we're all limited by our weather in current locations, aren't we? While I'm sure you each love your home as much as I, there are times I want to transport myself instantly to one of yours to enjoy a short trek outside...I do spend much of the days in AC, even during the winter months. Today is lovely, it's 68 now, at 1pm Sat. May be the high for the day. That rain front came through yesterday, cooling things down and settling some pollen, but the humidity makes breathing tough....we'll see. I'll be at Mayo next week so will get to walk the corridors again. That's a good thing....I can see outside most of the time, and love my birds and new little garden that's developing.
Sue, I'm searching for the best watering system for my plants. Some in ground, some in pots, some in baskets....so, I'm on-line today looking for the combinations of water feeding.... thanks for your advice.
Have wonderful walks, folks. Enjoy the day, life full of blessings. elizabeth
Hi, all. How is everyone’s walking/exercising going? I went out sort of early today because we were scheduled to do Meals on Wheels. I decided to try the Japanese practice of ‘forest bathing’. The participant stands in nature and soaks in the sights and sounds. It could have been very nice except I had to watch so I didn’t fall in the stream! And a heavy mist started which forecast snow! Oh well, it’s Springtime in the Rockies!
Becky- I actually had 2 nice walks today with my friend, and then with my husband and friend (2 very different paces) We are enjoying lovely 70 degree temps for a few days, and the cactus and trees are all blooming beautifully. Tomorrow will be a different pace yet - shopping and visiting friends in one of our favorite Mexican border towns, soaking in colors, music and maybe a few margaritas...

Hi @artist01, I've been thinking about you. How are you doing with your walking regimen? Has the weather been encouraging you outdoors?
@colleenyoung Hi Colleen. Just back from a hospital stay so no walking for a while yet. Can't wait to feel "normal" again, whatever that is! Hello gang! Missed you!
@artist01 Hi!! Welcome back to the fold! I thought I hadn’t seen anything from you in a while. I’m not usually in the walking group but do catch glimpses of the conversations.
I hope everything is ok and that you’ll be up and about soon! Big Cyber hug!! Lori.
@loribmt Aww Lori. Thankyou for your most welcome cyber hug. I really need them right now. Lol. I'm missing all the awesome weather we've had in the past two weeks, but I did enjoy a wonderful view of lodgepole pines out of my hospital window! Just need to build my strength back up.
@artist01 I’m glad you had a great view out of your window! That helps when you’re stuck inside. Reminds me of my first 5 week stay at our local hospital! I had an awesome view of a church garden across the street! Early spring and the garden erupted with all the flowers! Sure boosted my morale!
Everyday I’ve been posting a nature picture or two. Nature is healing and it’s fun to share. I hope you can enjoy them too, now that you’re back! Take care! Another hug... I’m a hugger and can’t WAIT until we can do that safely again. ☺️

Howdy doody Artist,
You have been missed for sure. Don’t you have anywhere better to spend your time than in the hospital?
I hope they were just giving you an overhaul so you’d be in good shape for my 108th birthday.
You’ll be walking the happy trails again soon but for now “it is what it is” right?
You take care of yourself now and that’s an order,
Jake
