@josephene I am having terrible insomnia as well. Nothing seems to help. Any specific suggestions? Many thanks.

Ive had sleep problems or many years. Ive had 2 sleep studies that were normal. I will have periods of time when I will wake up multiple times a night, for no reason that I know of. I hate it, it drains me so bad. So the last 4 nights it has come back. Im on meds, have been for years. Anyone have any insight to this? Could this be something neurological i can fix? I have other neurological stuff going on. I dont know. Very tired and want some answers! If you have any suggestions id love to hear. But Nothing about sleep hygiene please, thanks!

Hi, @januaryjane - Not being able to sleep straight through is rough. I have gone through periods before where my sleep is affected and found it anxiety-producing. When disturbed sleep keeps happening, you start worrying if you will be able to get a good night's sleep at all, and I've found it kind of becomes a circular problem.

@128128terry11t @sandytoes14 @brucearoo @gloriajean @maryshipley have all talked about insomnia in this discussion and may be able to offer you support and help you find answers to your questions. Hoping they may have insights on whether there is something neurologic that can be addressed.

I note that you prefer not to be given sleep hygiene input, so I'm guessing you've already read about/been given information about that (such as https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/adult-health/in-depth/sleep/art-20048379)? Have sleep hygiene principles helped at all with your periods in which you awaken multiple times per night?

@datd2 Lack of sleep impacts every aspect of our like and it sounds like you have suffered from insomnia for a long time. Are you attempting to ween off of prescription sleep medication. Did I get that right?

You'll notice that I moved your question to an existing discussion where members @lioness @januaryjane @cheshirecat @johnhans @gloriajean @artscaping have previously discussed this topic.

Would you mind telling us more about your situation? May I ask how long you've had insomnia, the medications you have tried, how long you have been on these medications, when you started to ween off of your current medication, if you have tried seeing a therapist for sleep hygiene, and any other pertinent information?

I started about 40 yrs. ago with unison, increasing to 2-3 per night, finally I mentioned my not sleeping to a doctor [early 90's?] she said I had a busy mind, true, I would be sleepy, head on pillow, eyes and brain wide awake, running through my brain all my jobs, working out solutions, then redoing that again, She gave me a prescription, it worked, don't remember what it was but she did not tell me it was addicting. I then changed doctors and tried to get off them he had me reducing, didn't work, he then kept trying other drugs, nothing worked, there was about 4 or 5 of these including the prescription Melatonin, melatonin has never worked for me, the last one was trazodone, that just made me stumble around and did nothing for sleeping, then he gave me clonazepam, it worked, he did not tell me how bad this drug was nor that it was just as mind addicting as the one I was trying to get off of. I started with 1mg., then upped to 2mg, now up to 3mg. I try to stay at 2 but that does not always work, even with 3 mg. [and I know I can never go higher] I still have 2-3 nights a week with no sleep. I can do deep breathing, etc., still awake. I am off my computer and tv at least a hour before going to bed, I try to keep a routine, doesn't help. If I am really physically tired I will start to go to sleep without taking anything and then wide awake, 'where's my pill?' I just ordered a bottle of RV Insomnia Relief after reading and researching this, I would try a CBD but if you don't have the TSH I read it won't work for sleeping. I am at my wits end. I can't function with no sleep for 4-5 nights trying to kick an addiction. I am so tired of all this. I do not have anxiety or depression issues so I don't know why I was given the drugs I was.
