Hello @ajmario and welcome to Mayo Connect
We are not medical professionals at Mayo Connect, only patients who have had medical problems and we are here to support and encourage each other. If you need to know more about your palpitations, you need to contact your doctor as soon as possible.
How long have you had palpitations? How long do they last? Have you spoken with a doctor about this yet?
Teresa
Hello @ajmario,
I'd also like to add my welcome. Teresa has asked some insightful questions, and we look forward to getting to know you.
If it helps, I'd like to share that I've had palpitations, SVT or supraventricular tachycardia, since I was a teenager. SVT is a fast heart rate that starts in the upper chambers of the heart. About 2 years ago, I underwent a cardiac ablation procedure, (which "resets" the heart's electrical circuit), as my episodes were prolonged and occurred often. However, many people don't require any treatment for this kind of tachycardia, and some may be able to manage palpitations with beta blockers or calcium channel blockers prescribed by a cardiologist. Most people experience an improvement after SVT ablation, but there's a chance that palpitations may return, as they have in my case, and the procedure can be repeated.
You may wish to view this conversation on Connect, "What could this possibly be?" https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/what-could-this-possibly-be/ where you can meet @incrediblemulk98 @jigglejaws94 @loli @cheris, and others who have discussed living with palpitations.
@ajmario,could you share a few more details more about your symptoms, as @hopeful33250 mentioned?
Helo @ajmario,
My name is Loli, and for me, palpitations have been normal for about 34 years. But yours might be different, so you need to talk to your doctor. I have had the little machine that you carry for 24 hours, and nothing bad showed. So my palpitations are benign. Sometimes it becomes bothersome; but I do not worry, just live with them. I hope this info helps.
I was diagnosed with Supraventicular tachycardia 3 years ago & take Propranlol once a day. I have recently started taking it twice a day because I'm feeling more light-headed than normal (especially when I am overtired & drink caffeine). Does anyone else have the same heart issue as me?
You cannot fool around with the dose of a beta blocker. Any changes you make should be, of course with the doctor's ok AND you can be sure, you will have to make the increase or decrease very gradually. Otherwise it can be dangerous...
Yes I do as well. What is the dosage of your propranolol?
@kanaazpereira did you have any others symptoms in between episodes? Did you find that you were more fatigued? Or headaches? I often am getting other symptoms in between the episides. Mine are short (less than 20 beats) but happen in airports for hours every day. I forgot to ask the cardiologist if it could cause other lingering symptoms.
