TKR revision surgery and problems

The test for metal allergies was a specialized blood test that was ordered by her ortho surgeon that was not available at the local testing facilities. It was performed as a last ditch effort to explain the years of hot, swollen, and painful knee. She doesn't have uncommon allergies and jewelry never produced reactions. As explained to us the joint wears from movement releasing ion's into the blood stream, the second knee was supposed to be an alloy which wouldn't cause this problem but it still to a lesser degree does. Sorry to know you are climbing stairs with a knee problem, be well.

Knee replacement

Going to need a third surgery on my right knee. First knee came out of cement. 2nd knee has screws and cable—now it has scar tissue behind kneecap? Plastic Pad needs to be replaced? Not sure if my doctor knows?

Good evening @vicki1234, Welcome to Connect, I have read your post and am a bit confused. I would like to be able to introduce you to others who have encountered a similar situation. We are going to need a bit more information from you. Here are some of my pondering thoughts.

When did you have the first surgery on your right knee? How long was it before the second surgery? You mention a build-up of scar tissue. Has that just happened?

What kind of physical therapy did you undergo after the first surgery? By chance, have you tried MFR, myofascial release therapy for scar tissue?

You indicate that your doctor may not even know about replacing plastic pads. Pardon my lack of understanding, but how could he/she not know if you are considering another surgery?

And finally, how would you like us to help you?

I'm sorry to hear that you've had so many issues with your knee replacements.

May I ask what you mean by, "Not sure if my doctor know?"

First knee operation on January 2019. 2nd knee operation on August 14, 2020. Scar tissue developed a short time later—or that’s what they say it is? Third operation scheduled May 4th of 2021.

Physical therapy—three days a week. Pretty intense therapy for both surgeries. 2nd surgery was excruciating. I still have a hard time getting out of chairs because of my knee. Going up stairs only one foot at a time. When I forget and use my knee to climb up a stair step—it brings me to tears.

Dr. Said we were starting out with the scar tissue first in surgery. Possibly changing plastic pad—which he did previously mention that he left it a little loose because I was so active snd young. Then maybe changing the prothesis upper part that screws off. I feel like he does not know??

I’m really not sure if my doctor really knows what it wrong with my knee—or...I feel that way.

Need a knee revision surgeon in the Boston MA area. Who does a lot of revisions. Recommendations please.

With a surgery date in May, I am worried that you will not receive the information you need to proceed with confidence in the procedure. Is it possible to request a second opinion? Does your hospital have a document of Patient's Rights? Knowledge is power.
