Septicemia: Blood infections

Hi @peach414144 I wanted to keep your discussion separate from other UTI conversations since this is more to the topic of septicema. But I did want to invite a few other people to the conversation who have discussed reoccurring UTIs like @australia, @marigrace89, @nene22, @contentandwell, @jakedduck1, @retiredteacher and @baxtersmom.
Has the blood infection caused sepsis in the body at all?

Hi, ya Peach,
Hope I'm still kicking at 83. You must be a very determined lady or maybe just plain stubborn.
I knew a lady and her kids were planning her one hundredth birthday. The lady said don’t bother planning anything I’m not gonna live to be 100. She said I'll live to 99 and that’s it and that’s exactly what she did. She was the most stubborn lady I ever met but she was a great cook, I loved her chocolate gravy.
Anyway, I’ve never had a urinary track infection or sepsis but my father had quite a few. He was paralyzed from the neck down and para & quadriplegics are prone to UTIs.
The only advice I have really is to drink more fluids mostly water drink until you can’t drink anymore and then drink some more and prevent those UTI’s. A lot of people swear by cranberry juice but when I had a kidney stone and told the doctor ”good thing I’ve been drinking lots of cranberry juice” and he told me ”the only thing cranberry juice will do is make you fat.” So there’s one doctors opinion. do you know what type of bug you got? my dad usually always had a gram-negative Pseudomonas infection and was usually treated with I.V. Gentamicin.

I'm sorry, @amandaburnett but I have not had recurring UTIs. I have only had one that seemed to come out of nowhere, and then two following botox injections for urinary incontinence.

Thank you four concern but: If the septicemia was treated properly the uti's would not return. You are correct about drinking much water but septicemia is death.

If the deadly septicemia was treated properly with Infectious Disease doctors there would be no repeat UTI infections. Perhaps there should be more knowledge re: Septicemia a deadly blood disease.

I’m not sure what you mean. I would imagine your doctors performed tests to ensure the infection was gone. Are you saying your doctors didn’t treat your condition appropriately? Even if the septicemia was properly treated and the infection was totally cleared up it doesn't preclude someone from getting another UTI and if it's not treated quickly enough or with drugs specific to the particular bug the infection could again cause septicemia.

It was determined the septicemia was not treated properly so the uti's continued ravaging the entire body. Two years later I was dying from this and wound up in the emergency room of a hospital who called in the infectious disease doctors who did a proper work up. I am now continuing the intravenous anti-biotics at home with home health aids. I have said before and continue to say that the health treatment here in Ocala, Marion County Florida needs some sort of oversight commites for the health professionals. The septicemia also destroys the eyesight. I do appreciate this site and your caring. My love to all of you Peach

Hi "Peach", I am curious....did you have a UTI/kidney infection that did NOT show up in culture (no bacteria)? I have been going through gross hematuria with blood closts and what was kidney pain for a long time but never showed up in culture. I talked my NP into prescribing antibiotics and finally the 3rd one (cephalexan) has seemed to work, although 10 days after finishing it had a little visible blood in urine the morning I saw my urologist so he said it was not an infection. I did ask him for antibiotic and he prescribed a prophylactic nitrofurontoin mono 100 mg to take at night. Since my visit to him and starting April 2 my urine is back to normal. He wants to do a repeat cystoscopy and scheduling a CT urogram (after having a CT scan without contrast and ultrasound 4 months ago which all came back "normal" as did his first cystoscopy). I still think it was an infection that did not culture, but subsequent antibiotics have cleared up?

This doctor never took a CULTURE. He went ahead blindly giving me intrevenous antibiotics one time a day then just sent me home. Astounding?

Wow Peach, prayer sent that what they are doing now will resolve the infection in your body. In a sense I have the opposite problem...maybe... Because of history of cancer all they want to focus on is cancer (so far findings are good ...at least nothing showing up and no "symptoms"). Had to talk my N.P. into antibiotics because I kept going back to "infection" in my analysis and scenarios but doctors kept saying "no culture no infection". I did find a research paper that studied older women with uti's and found that a small percentage indeed had kidney infection that did not culture. Please keep us updated on how you are doing.
