Vaccine Availability through Mayo Clinic Portal Notification
I was notified via the patient portal that I was eligible for a vaccine a few weeks back, but I was unable to do it because I happened to be on a short course of prednisone for a hearing problem. Since then I've heard eligibility is opening up, and most of my younger (I'm a 64 year old Mayo employee with a pre-existing condition) friends with no pre-existing conditions have already had both doses. Most people I know seem to be surprised that I haven't been vaccinated yet. Other than subscribing to all the local vaccine locater/trackers, checking the Mayo patient portal every day and getting on the employee waiting lists, is there something else I should be doing?

Hi @tiggyboo and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am not sure as to what location you are employed, however, this is some recent information on the Mayo Clinic News Network for Minnesota (our intranet site for employees) that was posted March 26th with specific instructions to go to your portal, call one of the numbers listed, and/or check the MN Department of Health website for other location options.
Thanks, I’m in Rochester. My instruction verbal and otherwise has consistently been to watch for the “invitation” to register via the portal. That hasn’t come via either private or Mayo email. The throng of friends far younger than I with no preconditions or work employment priorities having received their 2nd vaccine, and now their 16 year olds getting their first leads me to believe I’m doing something wrong (I’m 64 with a pre-existing condition.) These days I’m focusing my effort on “I know a guy...” leads which I think I would have been better served doing all along.
Tiggyboo - It seems that I am the only other one on here that truly knows how you feel and I am sorry you too have gone though this. I doubt we will ever know why or what happened that we were never notified to receive the vaccine. Here in Florida everyone that was a patient (even just a dermatology patient) received a message through their portal and plenty of emails instructing them to receive it. I am glad I did not wait around and went to Walmart (I am 67) to receive both of mine but I ended up with problems. My shoulder (where the shot went) froze up and 3 weeks later I am still having issues there and my lymph nodes. Would of helped if this had happened at Mayo where I receive a CT scan every 12 weeks for my terminal cancer. Whether it is their algorithm or human error, it is wrong that no one acknowledges that mistakes have been made. We have been forgotten, plain and simple. Next week I see my Oncologist and then my brain Radiologist and will have one of them add my vaccines to my portal so it is on my record. Hang in there and go get the vaccine elsewhere.....
@seaspray Oh, seaspray, my friend. I'm so sorry. I know you've spoken to everyone at Mayo possible, but this is horrid for you. Let me know if you need any help......love to hear from you. blessings, elizabeth
@tiggyboo You're a Mayo employee? How'd you slip through those cracks? Can't HR help????????? blessings, elizabeth
