Spasmodic dysphonia

Posted by romorrill @romorrill, Aug 28, 2011

I have had this for about 4 yrs now. I do recieve botox. The problem is, I feel like I am being choked by something in my throat. My m.d. told me my uvula was huge. When I told my ent dr. he said he had seen worse. When i lay on my sides it feels as if my throat is closed. Horrible feeling! Can someone tell me if this is normal for this condition?

@romorrill and @seaside162 While I've never had the DX of Spasmodic Dysphonia I have had paralysis of the left vocal cord - very frustrating to say the least!
I got a handle on it by having surgery at Cleveland Clinic. The surgeon put an implant in the paralyzed vocal cord. My speech therapist is still a good friend! I make appointments with her twice a year just to keep my voice tuned-up. I wish you both well in finding support and good treatment. It sounds as if you are dealing with some uncomfortable symptoms. 9 months ago I lost my voice after being subjected to a chemical that my work put out. For 2 months I had no voice with severe fatigue and spasms in my diaghram and chest. My voice has returned but usually only for 2 days of the week and then usually weak. The spasms continue and fatigue. Pulmonologist said all's well, Gastrologist says I have some signs of reflux, ENT said dysphonia but exercises dont work. Can y'all give me any insight?
Thanks

I have dysphonia and dysfagia as a consecuence of a skull base paraganglioma removal in Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and I am being treated by Dr Amy Rutt there. So far she has put a restylane inyection that didnt do much for me and 3 weeks ago I had a surgery in where she took out fat from my stomach and inyected it in my vocal chord, that has worked wonderful. Still not 100% recovered but I would say 70%. The following step would be a reconstruction of the vocal chord but lets see how things go with my speech therapy. Hope this helps
