Before you shop for pain med doc read about Mayo's Pain Rehabilitation Center. Besides fibromyalgia I also have Ehlers- danlos Syndrome which also has chronic pain. I've had 18 surgeries in joints. Here's my unsolicited advice. Pain meds are not a long term solution for pain. Period! Opioids and benzodiazepines are very temporary. As time goes on your body will become more dependent and the effectiveness will wear off requiring more drug to achieve results. I started on hydrocodone and said no more when i was up to liquid oxycontin and 2mg ativan. Trust what I say is from 2 decades of pill pushers (docs who don't know what to do to help you except to give you drugs). I never abused drugs but used them. Many other alternatives. No quick fixes.
Hello I was diagnosed with fibro when no one had ever heard of it. I just had a good dr. 16 years later and a lot of other health problems, but we have found combination of Tramadol, Valium, cymbalta, lortab and more rest seems to keep under control. Trust me I rejected drugs for many years but had no life, take what helps!
I was diagnosed in June 2011...have seen 4 specialists...won't give pain meds...I'm only 29..I have 3 kids and husband works out of town all the time!! I know what you mean about the simplest task feeling like a marathon!!! FIBRO SUCKS!!!
Read the book Treating And Beating Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue by Dr. Rodger Murphree and you will understand what is happening in your body and how to heal rather then cover up symptoms with dangerous drugs.
I applaud you for seeing the light and getting off the drugs. You would like the book Treating and Beating Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue by Dr. Rodger Murphree who is a chiropractor and board certified nutritionist specializing in Fibro for 15 years.
I would question why you need Cymbalta or Pristiq. They are seritonin reuptake inhibitors. This is like adding a gasoline additive to an empty gas tank. You need to build up your depleted seritonin levels...not be running on fumes. I used to take these drugs also prescribed by Mayo doctors but after reading and researching and treating the source of the problem not just treat the symptoms, I am now off the antidepressants. Read Treating and Beating Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatique by Dr. Rodger Murphree who specializes in Fibro(for 15 years)...teaches other doctors how to treat Fibro patients and is board certified in nutrition.
I had to see a pain specialist to get the meds I need for the pain. Yes I agree with all. Fibromyalgia sucks.
Very smart idea...sometimes docs overlook possibility of bone spurs and they can cause IMMENSE pain... much more than 'regular' fibro. Thanks for this tip.
First of all find a good orthopedic surgeon and have the bone spurs removed. I found those before I was diagnosed with fibryomyalgia. Had to spend one night in the hospital and wear a soft collar for a week mine was C5 and C6 was the best surgery I ever had no problems after that. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in Feb of 2011 on my birthday. I was taking Cymbalta but my second visit to Mayo got changed to Pristiq. I have to wear a Duragesic patch but still have breakthrough pain and I am going to Mayo on the 11th and something is going to have to change. I have had to quit work and right now trying to get disability.
