Carol, A private message (PM) is accessed by clicking the envelope icon top right.
-You and just add your new message for me to the PM message chain that you and I have already established, and I will get it (either see a notice in me email, or see a little red number in a circle on the envelope icon).
-If you want to include others in the PM, you would need to start a new message by clicking "Compose) and adding the persons you want to include in the PM. Only those persons will have access to that PM.

Does this help you?

I have a trick to share!
There is the link to Get Started on Connect that is located in the bottom left corner of this page. You can open it there by clicking on it, or open it thru this link- https://connect.mayoclinic.org/get-started-on-connect/
You can find the how to do the private messaging, and other helpful tidbits.

I'll be looking for your message as I check in during the day.
You are doing great! It will become easier for you.

You won't believe this, but that's what I thought I was doing. Then, when I had an answer, posts from other mentors on other topics were attached. Maybe it's a dialogue they are having about something else, but I have to read through to get to an answer. All this extra reading has my inbox overflowing. A one post to another just one post is what I thought private message was, but everything is attached to everything else.
It helps for you to tell me, and I will go to the Get Started site. I am probably three hours behind already today. I cook and prepare our meals, and tried to post inbetween cooking lunch, which absolutely ws ridiculous. I am spending hours spinning my wheels and getting nowhere. I want to read the heart and eye threads to know more about helping my husband, but that looks as if it's not going to happen. There is no time; I'm still trying to find basic computer operations of being a Volunteer Mentor. As an OCD, Type A personality, I get very angry at myself for not knowing.
I'll continue to get through all of these technology terrors. It's a perfect day for more of these horrors since it's Halloween!
Thanks again. I owe you in advance because I know I will be lost, maybe forever in this tech world, which I do not like because it doesn't like me; that's for sure.

I thought if I sent you a private message, you would be the only one to see it, but every time I do that, all the private messages are attached and jump from topic to topic and everyone gets it in their inbox, or so it seems to me.
If I want to send a message to just you or just one other Mentor, I don't know how to prevent all the Mentors from reading it. That further clogs up the inbox.

See this post. Scott is in between your post and mine. If I'm just trying to ask or answer you Scott or everyone else shouldn't have to take time to read something that he's not interested in. I thought I acceded the private message envelope to you, but it went to everybody. That shouldn't be.

Carol. I know exactly what you are saying (this will be seen by all mentors and moderators because they, too can learn from this situation.)
MY advice to you, is to turn your attention to the heart and eye threads. Also to your 12 week program.

It is okay to step away from all of this. You and your husband come first.

Most of what is cluttering your inbox can be remedied by tweaking your notifications in your account settings. That is explained in the link I sent you. Maybe your husband can help you help you with that.

@colleen young might have some advice to offer.

Thanks again, @rosemarya. I was a better patient than I am a Mentor. I had people helping me with my Diabetes diagnosis, and I could answer----simple. None of this technology long, complicated (to me) process was involved.

I don't know what I'll do. I need to think about it and see if all of my confusion is what I can resolve or if I just need be a patient again.

Thanks for all of your help. I simply don't know enough to correct the computer situation. That is obvious.

Hi @retiredteacher. I think it might be worth our time if we booked a telephone call and I gave you a brief tutorial to
- understand the difference between an @mention and a private message
- how to set your email preferences so you're not inundated
- how the discussion threads are configured

I'd be happy to do this. I will send you a private message so we can find a time and date.

PS: Justin and I are going to make a series of video tutorials in the near future because I think a lot of people have similar questions and frustrations. By doing this tutorial with you, it will help us understand the barriers.

@colleenyoung Video tutorials would be a great idea! I often find myself trying to explain to a Member a "how-to" and I find it hard to explain because it comes second nature to me after several years. If I could just provide a link to a tutorial that would be better.

I'm not a quitter, and I have always been in control. Not being able to do this is driving me crazy. I will try the phone call. I feel totally incompetent. I started trying to do my job before 9:00 this morning and here it is 3:30, and I have accomplished nothing.

Just tell me when. My husband's eye stroke injections are beginning again, so that is the only time I couldn't be on the phone.

Hi all! I'm really sorry I missed the call yesterday! Can't even blame my computer -- since Napa the Lab decided she needed to taste my cellphone, which is now my only phone! After a quick visit to the Vet the determination was that all will be OK for her insides, but not so much my wallet!

Pups will be pups I guess!

Cheers all and I look forward to catching up!

Hi Scott
I'm glad to hear that Napa survived, even if your phone didn't😂

Hi to @retiredteacher, @rosemarya @mamacita and all other Southern bells in our Mentor community. It was so good to hear so many southern drawls last night on our phone call! I was born in Louisville KY but raised in Michigan, so I don't have any drawl at all (rhyming was not intended).

Also, for those of us who don't believe in sweating, remember this: Southern bells don't sweat, we GLOW!

It was sweet to gear all those Southern accents! Love you all!
