Hi to @retiredteacher, @rosemarya @mamacita and all other Southern bells in our Mentor community. It was so good to hear so many southern drawls last night on our phone call! I was born in Louisville KY but raised in Michigan, so I don't have any drawl at all (rhyming was not intended).

Also, for those of us who don't believe in sweating, remember this: Southern bells don't sweat, we GLOW!

I enjoyed hearing the drawls and did not have trouble understanding them at all, which for me is surprising.

I am a northerner but I too hate sweating. When I use my recumbent bike I end up dripping, more so than any other time. I hate that.

@hopeful33250 -- it was my 2nd oil painting from a photo of a lighthouse in a magazine. I keep it to remind me why art is not my forte and to keep my day job. The first one was so bad I painted over it...yup, it's the same canvas. The first one was an old wooden sailing ship first pass. Then after seeing how bad it was I added a fog cover so you could barely make out that it was a ship in the fog. It definitely turned me into an art appreciator for those that really have the talent.

@johnbishop If you are into lighthouses you might enjoy my brother's website. He has many lighthouses in Maine on it, he is a photographer now after retiring from being a physicist. I hope this is not against the rules -- his website is http://www.kennealy.com.
I guess I clicked on the wrong name before! Meant to be for you John.

John,
Don't say you can't paint. You CAN paint. I love this. It's personal, so it obviously is the work of one person and not a mass produced copy. It's your style and your technique. My Master bath is done in Lighthouses, since my husband was born In Rhode Island and lived close to Point Judith. We traveled there when we were first married. It certainly reminds me of that trip. I am always so impressed when I see paintings like yours, and I have several older friends who paint. My parents paid for art lessons for me, and I could never even paint a crooked line! They also paid for dance lessons, voice lessons, and piano lessons. Just as the art, I do not have a melodious voice, I am not a dancer, and I probably can play chopsticks on the piano! So don't hide your talent under that bushel. You have the gift. I have no hobbies. My only passion was/is teaching, and now I don't have that.
I mourn the loss every day.

@retiredteacher Carol, it makes me sad for you that you loved teaching so much and now can no longer do it. I don't remember if you said before, but what level/subject did you teach?

@rosemarya, Good for you! I just don't sweat. Wonder what that means??

@hopeful33250 Teresa, I think it means you haven't been busting your derriere on a recumbent bike for 30 minutes.

@hopeful33250 When he was working in physics he started in nuclear physics and ended that career in optical physics, he was always interested in photography. He has a link there to his wife's work also, she does watercolors. I have sent him info about connect because he wears one of those sleep masks for apnea. I'm not sure if he has checked that out here or not though.

Hey @johnbishop - The thing about being an artist is that you aren't an artist in everything. I'm pretty good with stained glass and textile arts - quilting, sewing, etc. But I'm not worth a dime at painting. Once I went to a "Painting With a Twist" - one of those where they take you step by step through painting a picture. Mine was so bad that when my sister saw it she thought one of the little kid neighbors had painted it and I felt I had to hang it. Truly. Yours looks like a Rembrandt beside mine!

@johnbishop glad you enjoyed it. He’s not doing much these days due to mobility problems. He really enjoyed his second vocation though.
