How is is decided what facility the organ goes to once it becomes available? As in Mayo or another transplant center that may be close too.

Is normothermic machine perfusion becoming more popular for OLT at Mayo? What is the maximum cut off for cold-ischemia time (in number of hours) at your center if using hypothermic solutions?

I am interested in the last question also. It seems as if some very sick people have MELDs in the teens whereas other people who seem to be less sick are in the high 20s. What causes this?
Also, I have had a transplant, If something happened to me, not liver related, could that liver be transplanted again?
Thank you

Can you talk about the latest in stem cell research and how close we may be to regenerating livers rather than recommending transplant?

REPLY

Is it rare to get a blood type A+ liver ?

REPLY

If I move out of the state where my Mayo clinic was does my transplant team recommend a place for me to get my yearly check ups or does it mean I have to return always to my orginal transplant hospital

REPLY

assuming routine recovery from OLT and no complications, can you provide approximate cost of getting a liver transplant in US/your center for someone who does not have insurance or is willing to pay out of pocket?

REPLY

How do you know when it is time to get a living donor transplant with PSC? Is it better to get it sooner rather than later? MELD is pretty low, and overall health is good, but if you wait until very sick is that a smart thing to do, rather than when younger and overall healthier?

Could you comment on the different wait times for someone with a rarer type of blood, ex: AB
