Hearing Aid Adjustment

Posted by neil10 @neil10, Mar 28, 2021

I have a pair of Costco K8.0 hearings aids. Due to Covid I am stuck in Europe thousands of miles from any Costco. One of the aids has gone very quiet with barely any sound amplification. It may be the unit or could be my hearing in that ear has significantly diminished. Given that these aids are somewhat generic (Siemens?) is it likely that a local audiologist can identify any problem and adjust the amplification?

@neil10 I believe that the Costco K8 is a Rexton product. The same manufacturer makes the Signia (Siemens) product. Costco does not lock their newer models so you should be okay with going to an audiologist that can program a Rexton device. Call first to make sure.

Tony mentions 'locking' hearing aids. This has been a problem in the past with some hearing aids sold by 'big box' providers. Hopefully, he is correct that your model is not a locked model. When they are locked, only the original provider, or that providers brand/company has the capability of adjusting them. I hope you can find an audiologist in your area to help you. You suggest it may be your hearing rather than the hearing instrument. It might be a good time to have some testing done to see if that's an issue.

@neil10 There are 32 Costco Stores in Europe.. UK, France, and Spain.. Check it out online and you will see one close perhaps..

Yes the units are a Rexton product supplied in April 2019 so hopefully they are not locked. I’ll phone around the local audiologists here in the Costco free Channel Islands. (Time out while everyone investigates where that is!). Thanks to all for your comments/suggestions.

@tonyinmi That's so interesting. Where/how do you find out which companies make which brands? Sometimes it feels overwhelming to navigate the brands and know who makes what. I'm learning more about Costco/Kirkland brands, but was not aware who manufactured. Thanks, once again, for sharing your info!

I am not having much success finding a local audiologist to reprogram my Costco K8.0 Rextons. I may have to fly to Southampton! However a very helpful local said that more sophisticated hearing aids that can be controlled via an IPhone (as mine are) can sometimes be reprogrammed remotely via the IPhone. She can provide the necessary audiogram and said that this approach is becoming more popular in the Covid era. Wow! Does anyone have any related knowledge?
