Marijuana for Chronic Pain Experiences

Posted by ashby1947 @ashby1947, Mar 1, 2021

Hello Everyone - I have severe osteoarthritis in my lumbar spine ( along with a bunch of other things - stenosis, etc). My Pain Mgmt doc just signed me up for Medical Marijuana. I have no problem with marijuana, and like many of you, probably enjoyed it in our youth during the 70's. But fast forward to a 74 y.o. woman trying to figure out how best to use it for chronic pain. Florida has Medical MJ laws, which I'm trying to figure out. But in addition, the dispensing of it is not something with which I am familiar! So many different dosages and forms. I would very much appreciate hearing about your exploration and experimentation with MJ for pain mgmt. What have you tried? what has worked? what dosage? problems? suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help. I hope you are having a good day! Sue

I began using Medical Marijuana about 2 years ago to help decrease my PRN narcotic meds, which it has done and continues to help me. It helps greatly to deal with the pain and associated symptomology.

Could i ask what it is that you use. Type and potency. Thanks Steve

I use Ilera Healthcare Ease tincture THC/CBD:1/10 ratio in the morning; Ilera Hope 2 tincture THC/CBD 5/1 ration and any brand of straight THC >70% at bedtime. I supplement in between with Vaped THC/CBD approximately 5 times a day. It all depends on how experienced you are with marijuana. I’m an old hippie with years of experience and I no longer get buzzed from marijuana but it works for my pain control and that is fine by me. I can fully function with my regime as I cook in my home and do all food shopping.

I neglected to add in regards to sativa vs. indica, it all depends on how you need your pain controlled. Indica typically will rock your socks while sativa is more mellow. Tinctures are usually hybrid by design and not sativa or indica. Hope this helps

Thanks very much, I to have had my fair share of experience but that was yrs ago. I am hoping to find the right mix of energy and pain relief. Someone else suggested the tinctures, i was hoping not to have to smoke anything but at this point I will try anything to help. Thanks

This is all great and helpful information. May I ask for which kind of pain you are using mj? Do you use is all the time or, if the pain is not bad on a day, do you skip it then? Do you get any other treatment for your pain, i.e. periodic injections as for back pain, or take any other pain meds - even Tylenol? Thanks for your help! Sue

I have severe spinal OA and I’m prescribed Buprenorphine patch 1x week. I still require PRN relief throughout the day.

Addendum: I cannot take NSAIDs and plain Tylenol does zip for my pain. I used to need 6 Oxycodone a day and since using mj I’m down to 4 a day. I walk 2-5 miles daily in good weather and have a HE program I follow and I stay tuned up by seeing my PT once or twice a year. My only job now is to take care of my pain.

You should check out American for Safe Access where you can learn about current marijuana plants, what they contain, how to use, etc. Also look on Leafly website for articles on using temperature to control how mj affects you and how to regulate it.
