Compression Stockings After Total Hip Replacement

Posted by lotsofpain @lotsofpain, Jan 19, 2021

I had a total hip replacement last Thursday morning and continued to where the compression stockings when I was discharged. I forgot to ask them how long I am supposed to wear the stockings for and I can't remember from the first time I had this operation about 15 months ago on the other hip. My vague recollection is that I only wore them for a few days does anybody know how long I really should wear them for me

@lotsofpain You are wondering what your compression stockings routine should be after total hip replacement. Member @breick had a very recent hip replacement as well and they may be able to help answer your question. Often there is paperwork providers give regarding aftercare. Might there be anything in that paperwork? I know it can be hard to get ahold of surgeons at times but I'm wondering if you have tried calling their nurse?

I did not have to wear compression stockings at all. They used the inflating cuffs in the hospital. I continued to do the 2 exercises - moving feet forward/backward and tightening quad muscles for 4 weeks. @lotsofpain, check your discharge paperwork.

@lotsofpain I have not had a hip replacement but have had two knee replacements, done by different doctors. From my experiences, I would say that each doctor has their own preferences and their own guidelines for what you should do post-surgery. I presume you have confidence in your surgeon so I would go with whatever his office suggests.
