Curious what "drying" ingredient(s) in toothpaste your dentist was referring to?

I wouldn't say that I wake up with an overly dry mouth --- what one would expect from not drinking any liquid for 8+ hrs.

I'm sorry but I can't remember what the drying ingredients in some tooth pastes that my dentist told me to avoid. I just took his advice and started using Biotene products. You could ask your dentist. Good luck.

Don’t just treat the symptoms with chemicals etc. Try to find the cause.
Mouth breathing leading to dry throat could come from allergies-- a stuffy nose preventing nose breathing
Climate: If its worse in winter, when the furnace is running, try a humidifier.
Old age can thin mucus linings. try a humidifier. House humidity should be no less than 25%.

HAVE A MEDICAL ISSUE/REACTION BUT CANT FIND THE SOURCE?

...can I just say something about "Lozenges" I have been using when have a dry, or sore mouth... have been using them over quite a few years when needed: spouse bought more today from our small pharmacy: Cepacol, and Strepsils; and I also have on hand Dequadins.

Long story short: have been having some odd spells lately and trying to find out if anything causes them and of course may not be it, but for some reason decided to check Cepacol and Strepsils on the Internet and was shocked to find they have, or can have, a lot of side effects.

To tell the truth, I never read the back of the packages with warnings of side effects and thought they were just on step above candies so didnt bother checking on Internet as just off the counter purchases I didn't consider them "medications."

So many people these days, including me, who have drug reactions, or even food reactions, but wonder if anyone has any of the side effects listed, not realizing they may have been caused by what I call "cough drops." Not sure if this is of interest to anyone, but I was shocked. I am in Canada but I think they are also sold in U.S.A. Thanks, Dr.Google!! J.

@lacy2 Good information .For my dry mouth my Dr told me to get Act mouthwash and there are lozengers also I like the lozengers

Hi @lioness I will see if they sell it here. I liked those lozenges I mentioned but after reading the side effects wont be using them any more - not worth the risk to me. Gosh so many chemicals and potentially harmful substances in all we use these days..I'm not a "tree hugger" but feel like gong to live on an island and eat grass! I feel for the young children these days growing up with all the additives and such in food and other products..... well 9pm here so off to find a you tube relaxation tape to listen to and hopefully forget my aches and pains and tremors.. before i go to sleep. ... how are you? J.
