Low Back Pain Going into Hip and Leg

Posted by donaldjames1 @donaldjames1, Dec 8, 2020

I have had 5 surgeries/fusions on my back and neck. I have not been able to get out of pain. I have lower right back pain, goes into my hip and into right leg. They think it might be my hip now, but doctor took and xray of hip a d they looked fine, he said. So I am in a position where I'm on pain meds and dont know who to see that can help me. I need help be a use of the pain when I get up. I also have pain in between shoulder blades which is secondary to my right lower back. I have had MRI done and they do not see what it may be... I'm just tired of being in pain with no life. I know God sent me to this site to find out options. Can someone help?

I suggest you first look it up on the Mayo Clinic site.

The Sciatica nerve runs from lower back (buttocks) down leg & can cause severe pain. I have had it for years & have had numerous and varied treatments for it. None worked, sorry to say. I have pain every day, and the only remedy/relief I have found is to sit down till it subsides.. Perhaps the nerve is being impinged upon somehow. The internet, (on reputable sites) is always a good source to learn about this problem.
I have not found a doctor that is able to help alleviate my pain even though they have tried everything from physical therapy to surgical procedures.

@mermaid7272 You've tried a lot of treatments for sciatic pain but nothing has worked.

Below I have linked a previous discussion on this topic. I encourage you to scroll through the comments.

May I ask how many physical therapists and physical therapy sessions you went to?

At least three therapists, one tried warm water, another was a specialist in backs, can't recall the other.person, I'd say at least 60 sessions in total. All tried various exersizes, massages and streches , (I can't spell today--- very painful day!)

I have been having low back and leg pain.
Physical therapy, accupuncture, chiropractic and steroid shots haven’t helped.
Been to 5 surgeons and had 5 different surgeries recommended - everything from a double fusion to a simple discectomy.
Any advice?

Hi @harvey2007, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You will see that I moved your comment to a discussion where @donaldjames1 is discussing back and leg pain after 5 surgeries. I thought you two had some things in common and encourage you to connect with the other member in this conversation.

Are you considering one of the surgeries they recommend?
