Thank you..Dang. It is hard geting old. I will ask my doctor about the injection. He keeps wanting me to go to physical therapy, but my insurance doesn't cover it. Last time It cost me $100 a week for ten weeks.
I have had bursitis in left hip - started after a Hip Replacement- they claimed I was too active too soon/ probably how I go bursitis. I have had one injection, pool therapy, and therapy with a physical therapist, ice and heat- nothing helps. My last therapist said it felt inflamed and large- she worked on trying to break down the inflammation - But I still have pain ! She mention she had one patient that had the bursa removed- on both sides and was doing great. Does anyone know about having the bursa removed? Thanks

1 Reaction@coco A long time ago, when I first had hip bursitis, a few people mentioned that I should consider a hip replacement so I researched that. From what I read, hip replacements can bring on hip bursitis so your situation is not unusual.
I have found no long-term relief for my bursitis. I never remember to ice it but my sister also has hip bursitis and she is pretty diligent about icing and has said that it does help. I have had physical therapy for it a number of times. I finally just gave up and live with it.
I have also read, on here I believe, that you can have the bursa removed but they do generally grow back so it's not a permanent fix.

Approximately one month ago I had an ultrasound and x-rays on my right shoulder and arm. I was told by my Dr. that I have Bursitis. I have gone four times for therapy. I was given exercises to strengthen my muscles in both arms. To date, i have had no relief of this sometimes unbearable pain. I can’t lift anything.without pain. I have been putting heat and ice packs on my right arm and shoulder and doing the exercises, but none of this is helping me. I am not taking any meds for this pain. Will someone kindly let me know if they have experienced this and for how long? What else can I do for myself? I am almost 80 years old and am miserable with this pain 24/7. Thanks very much.
Hello happy76
The best doctor to handle bursitis is an orthopedic doctor. PCP really are not educated in handling that kind of condition.
Also, if PT is not done properly, it can aggravate the situation.

@happ
@happyat76 I agree with @funcountess & @cyn77. I'm so sorry that this is happening. I cannot give you any advice on the topic directly, I will leave that to the members. I do want to ask why you are not taking anything for the pain? Do you think you should seek a second opinion with an orthopedic provider as @funcountess & @cyn77.
You'll notice that I moved your question to a recent previous discussion on this topic. I did this so you could connect with members in a central location.
Will you check back and tell us what you decide and how you are making out?
Thank you funcountess for your reply.. It makes good sense to me that an Orthopaedic surgeon would be the best one to see for my Bursitis. Actually, I am on a waiting list with one such specialist to have my left knee replaced. I will look into this further with him. Perhaps he can give me a cortisone shot to help with the pain.
Hi Erica, Thank you very much for your kind reply. I am not taking any meds for my pain as my Dr. won't give me anything because she said that meds for the Bursitis will cause my stomach to be painful or bleed. I know I can't take aspirin or anything like this, so I am taking on my own, Tylenol for arthritis and Aleve together. They help a little, but not much and both are hard on my stomach and cause constipation. I did go to a very reputable physiotherapist and he gave me a couple of exercises to do with a stretchy band, but it really hurts to use it, but I keep on trying every day. Perhaps a cortisone shot would do me a lot of good if done by the right Dr. Thanks again and I will keep you posted as to what I end up doing.
