Wearing masks with over the ear hearing side

Posted by akalsas @akalsas, Nov 14, 2020

“I have stopped wearing my aids when masks required because when talking ,etc my aids have been almost lost because the movement of mask makes for a dangerous situation. Having had the scare of the aids being dangling from behind the ear frequently. What do others do?

@julieo4 The use of the neck gaiter type mask is a tube of fabric that you put over the head and it rests from the neck up to the nose and mouth ... it never gets up to mess with the ears.. You can see that many of the coaches of football teams who wear earphones use them.. it works well for the hard of hearing as well

Yes it does work fairly well. Our wonderful Green Bay Packer organization recently sent their season ticket holders gaiters with the team logo. 🙂 Earlier, the stock shareholders received masks with the logo. Guess we all have to find ways to cope well, AND have fun with it, right? Regardless, the masked society creates a hard of hearing lipreader's HELL for us!

@catladyde9 I just checked there again, and you're right, there is nothing offered now. I did a search and also tried to contact them with a message. Nothing worked. Perhaps they stopped offering them. They were offering 4 of them for free when I first searched,. I placed an order in November. Nothing has arrived.

Sparklegram - I can send you some of my clear windowed masks that I am sewing with the elastic that goes around the heard and saves your hearing instruments. Then you don't need the ear savers - although I can send you some headbands I have. I am sewing these here in FL - Julie can give you my contact information so I can send you want you need. Eloise

Oh my goodness, @nurseheadakes, that is so kind of you to offer. I would only need one or a headband. Thank you!!! I'll notify Julie.

No problem - I can send you both. Julie can let me know where to send them.

@nurseheadakes Dear RN! I am writing you on something off topic from the current dialogue which I hope you can help with. I want to respond to @joyces but since I printed out what she said, I deleted the information of where here message was located. It could have been hearing loss or balance, VRT. Would you be able to help me get back to where I left off with her? At the moment it is specifically VRT I am concerned about. Thanks for whatever you might be able to suggest! 🙂

Hello - I am sorry I can't find the thread the led up to the VRT discussion. I did not keep them so that I could follow their discussions.
I don't know what specific Group they were part of...you could check the menu up on the top space bar and check that out for the approximate date line when you were talking with @joyces about this topic.
