Pedialyte from a doctor? I never knew something like this existed. Is the pedialyte used for seizures in children?

@carnation, you will notice that I changed the title of you post to better describe your question. In order to increase your chances of having your question answered I'm going to bring members @lsittll @1710dave @heal33 @nicosmom into the conversation.

I'm wondering if you could give more background on the question you are asking? Did your provider suggest Pedialyte or did you find this information elsewhere?

My Dr didn't suggest it. My brother in-laws, great niece is 3 years old and has had seizures since she was born, 10-12 seizures a day.The Drs have tried all kinds of different medicines to control the seizures. None of them have been able to control the seizures. Recently, she was sick, having some problems and on A FLUKE the parents gave her some of the liquid brand name Pedialyte with the Electrolyte solution in it and she doesn't have any seizures anymore. My sister told me about this because I've had epilepsy and seizures since I was 11, FOR 44 Years. i'm 55 now. They still can't control them. I've accepted them and wondered if any other Epileptics, Doctors, or tests have ever been done on this Liquid PEDIALYTE Product with Epileptics?

@carnation - it’s wonderful that the young girl doesn’t have seizures now! I have never heard about Pedialyte being used to control seizures. Pedialyte is similar to IV fluid, but taken by mouth.
Regarding yourself, I’m sorry your seizures are not controlled. Have you been to a special Epilepsy Center?

I would like to know if vitamins have any help with seizures. If loading up with pills can help?

I’ve had epilepsy for 53 years and have only heard of one person who was able to control his seizures through the use of vitamins. He controlled his with the use of B vitamins.
Taking vitamin and mineral supplements aren't the cure-all some people like to believe.
Nutrients your body requires should come from eating a healthy and varied diet whenever possible and not from supplements.
Anticonvulsants deplete a number of vitamins.
Phenobarbitol which I have taken for over 50 years can cause depletion of calcium, folic acid, vitamin D, vitamin K, and biotin. Dilantin can deplete a wide range of nutrients including biotin, calcium, folic acid, vitamin B1, vitamin B12, vitamin D and vitamin K.
Vitamin D speeds up the body's normal breakdown of vitamin D and reduce calcium absorption, so after my test showed I was deficient I started supplementing vitamin D.
It’s believed approximately 50% of people with Epilepsy have a vitamin D deficiency, that’s approximately 32 million people. Have you had yours checked?
I only take a vitamin or mineral if needed. I take iron because of my bi-monthly blood donations to keep my hemoglobin up. I do take B Complex but doubt I need it now that my meat consumption has increased.
Although I don't want to discourage you from trying vitamin therapy, you shouldn't take them indiscriminately, so if you decide to try vitamins for seizure control I hope you do it safely and go to your physician and get his/her approval and correct dosages. Don't think ”if a little bits good a whole lot more is better.”
By the way, what type of seizures do you have?
How are you currently controlling or trying to control your seizures?
Take care,
Jake
