Hepatitis B

Posted by rolbuuny @rolbuuny, Oct 11, 2020

Some one just married and is with the partner for two months now but has realized he infected his wife with Hepatitis B. In order for her body to fight the virus and clear the disease within 6 months according to medical experts, should they stop having unprotected sex with her husband right away or what can they really do as sex is inevitable since they share bed?

Hi @rolbuuny, Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Glad you could join the group of conversations. We aren't medical professionals here on Connect, but we share personal experiences and individual tips. I also changed the title of your discussion to reflect the nature of your question in order to better engage the members on connect with the same issues.

According to Wed MD, "Hepatitis B (HBV) is 50 to 100 times easier to transmit sexually than HIV ( the virus that causes AIDS). HBV has been found in vaginal secretions, saliva, and semen. Oral sex and especially anal sex, whether it occurs in a heterosexual or homosexual context, are possible ways of transmitting the virus."

I would like to share this article with you that suggests after someone that has been infected with Hepatitis B should always use protection when engaging in sexual intercourse. https://www.everydayhealth.com/hepatitis/hepatitis-and-your-sex-life.aspx

@rolbuuny, I know you mentioned that the 6 month advisement was according to medical experts, have the persons in question consulted their medical care provider to assure they are taking every measure to protect themselves?

Hi @amandaburnett,Thanks for helping out.
I would like to ask something related.
If a wife is infected with Hepatitis B 1 month and half ago, do you think she could be treated as it may be at acute stage yet?

@rolbuuny That I feel may be best answered by the physician she is seeing. Has she established care with a medical team for this?
