Celebrating an antibiotic-free year

And I’m convinced 7% nebulized saline did the trick. (Accompanied by percussion vest vibration) And this forum is the place I learned of “The 7% Solution.“ “Don the indebted.”

@windwalker

Thank you Kate. I don't think I have a mac or pseudo infection, just something trying to get me. I went back on the toby just in case.

Just a heads up - here in MN, in addition to Covid surging, there is an awful bug going around that is causing bone-shaking coughing and bronchitis - both my daughters have been fighting it for a month (both had negative Covid tests first.) Both had to go on prednisone, antibiotics & nebs to beat it. I fought it with extra nebs & naps - think I may have avoided it. We only see each other, so trying to figure out where they got it - maybe at a visit to urgent care with one of the littles, in spite of masks & sanitizer?

@migizii ...Just read your post and I'm not sure if you know that 'something stuck in your throat' (usually feeling like a lump) is a classic symptom of acid reflux or silent reflux. Not sure in your case but thought I would mention it. Kate

In reply to alleycatkate thx for letting me know.....about a year ago, my doctor checked this out through Mayo and I do not have those issues or swallowing problems. However, I do have Schatzki’s ring, which has been stretched twice over the past few years. The doctors informed me that if food starts to begin get stuck regularly again, I need to call and have it examined again. Thus far, food has not been a problem, but thanks again for your insights, kindness and concern.

Hello Ellen. I see that you just recently joined our group. Welcome! I am sorry to read that the lung surgery did not fix the problems with your lungs. Did you have it done at NJH by any chance? Here is a list of other group members that also have dealt with MAI. You can go to their profiles and read all of their posts, or you can reach out to them and ask questions. Here they are:@brigby, @jammer, @irene5, @poodledoc, @Cathln. Maybe after exchanging thoughts on treatment plans with these other members; you can come to a decision on how to proceed for yourself. Read and learn all that you can about your disease. Knowledge is power!

Hi Migizii, and Kate. I looked up 'Schatzki's Ring' because it sounded very similar to my diagnosis of ;Barrett's Ring'. I had trouble swallowing too and having that feeling of things getting stuck in my throat.I had an endoscopy 5 yrs ago and they went ahead and stretched my esophagus out where those rings were.I couldn't believe how much better I felt to eat again. Barrett's can be caused by several things; acid reflux (which I have) and alcoholism (which I do not have). Not sure what the difference in the these two esophagial disorders is, but I found a link about yours. Apparently both have links to GERD/acid reflux. I post links so that other curious members can learn also. Here ya go: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3033540/

@migizii Hi and glad to hear your response. You seem right on top of any gastro issues! I had no idea that my lump in my throat was an indication of acid reflux. When I visited my Pulmo at Mayo he suggested that the acid reflux could have been an issue with the MAC and Bronchiectasis as the reflux may have aspirated into my lungs at night. He saw it as an issue that really needed to be handled. And what was amazing was that a Pulmonologist's suggestions for getting it under control were far superior to my gastroenterologists. Anyway...It seems so often that one problem leads to another....so I was just looking to give a heads up..but can see you are already there!! Glad you are doing well. Kate

What did your doctor prescribe for the acid reflux? My pulmonologist wants me to get tested as well.

@kathyhg Very Simplistic. His advice was to get a wedge to sleep on and do not eat or drink 2-3 hours before bed (preferably 3). Only a sip of water if needed. That was it. My gastro guy wanted me on medications that I would not take. I also think the Pulmo said to be careful of my trigger foods. Anyway...It has done the trick.
