It’s eating foods that are minimally processed. It’s very similar to a vegan style eating: whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes. I have researched several studies that have clinically proven that this type of diet relieves many of the symptoms of Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis. When I was at my worst, with bloody diarrhea 15-17 times a day, unable to leave the house or even maintain 100 pounds, my GI doc recommended Entyvio and a consult with a colorectal surgeon to remove my colon and rectum if things did not improve. I had exhausted all tiers of treatment, from oral mesalamine to both oral and rectal budesonide to prednisone and the UC was “fulminant.” I had read some studies about the WFPB diet and how it made a significant difference in symptoms, so I figured I had nothing to loose! There are so many sites out there with recipes and ideas on how to cook and eat. It has made such a difference in my life!! I have the Entyvio infusions every 8 weeks and continue to eat this way. I have been able to maintain weight and feel good for the first time in years! My C-reactive protein and cal protection numbers (inflammation markers) are all within normal ranges. I don’t miss meat at all; I do miss dairy, but it’s a small price to pay to feel good again! UC is a chronic condition and it’s something I’ve learned to live with. I had my annual colonoscopy in July and my doctor was thrilled that there was significant improvement in the mucosal lining, so what I’m doing seems to be working.... I hope this helps.
Thanks for all your help guys. But I don't know what persistant starch is and where to get it. All my Dr. suggests is Senecot as needed. Have not tried it yet. Maria.
