Ulcerative colitis: What helps with constipation?

Posted by mariajean03 @mariajean03, Sep 11, 2020

I'm constipated every day on a low residue diet for moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. What should I do?

That's the pits isn't it I'm not sure what your diet allows but ask your Dr if Prunes or the juice is alright to have .I eat a few prunes but not on any certain diet that is my suggestion

Can you take a clear, dissolving fiber powder with a glass of water in the morning? That has worked for me. Also, you can get suppositories that act fairly quickly. I used a long time ago. You can purchase protective fingers that make the second option less distasteful. Good luck! This can really be a bummer.

Thanks guys. I love prunes so I'll try that first! Maria.

It’s not a good feeling for sure. Dulcolax works nicely as it is a stool softener. Along with drinking plenty of water, walking eating those veggies. Sometimes rubbing your tummy can stimulate things to happen. Hope this helps you.

The probiotic Visbiome (GI recommenced this years ago) and a whole food plant based diet have kept things good for me. Diagnosed with UC over 3 years ago; currently on biologic, Entyvio, and in clinical remission.🙏🤞. Good luck!

@jesfactsmon I swear to god there was a different message I tried to send you. It was from a company selling various medications like pain killers, etc

@mariajean03 I take acidophilus chewables (1 billion parts) and never had constipation even taking hydrocodone. It also eliminated the daily nausea I used to have.

I love vegetables but can't digest them properly. Stool softeners are not strong enough.
