Isolation and depression: Scared of the coming winter

Posted by jamsie @jamsie, Aug 22, 2020

I am in my 60's and have suffered with depression and anxiety for many years. I find myself unable to cope with the loneliness that has come with COVID. Although married, it is one of convenience, and there is no help from my husband in that regard, or for that matter, in most everything. I have also gained about 25 pounds during this time and my self esteem is at a low. I eat and eat and am never full. I quilt and hand sew for hobbies, but have now lost the interaction of those friends due to COVID. I am scared to death of what a Minnesota winter will bring. I need someone to talk to.

Need Connection and Support.

I'm going through some health issues and I'm pretty isolated. Even before covid. I do counseling, but have no resources where I live and have been trying to connect with others online. The loneliness is getting to me, I just don't want to spiral.

Yes, I am very interested in your journey especially in regards to your muscle tightness. Have you had any tests done for this or did any genetic test. I would be interested to read what your doctors say regarding this.

@daphne47 You are feeling isolated and you don't want to spiral. You need connection and support.

You will see that I have moved your question into a discussion where members are currently discussing isolation. I did this so you could more quickly connect and get support. You will notice members like @jamsie @bustrbrwn22 @kimcvi @bookysue @woogie @al4terry @buyearly @rossjt @douglasebaker have experience with this topic and may be a good resource for you. I also encourage you to scroll back through the comments to find previously shared suggestions.

You were going to counseling before but due to COVID-19 that ended. Teletherapy is active right now and most therapists are seeing clients online through Zoom or other platforms. Have you considered looking into that?

Before COVID-19 and your health issues, what did you enjoy doing?

I ask because there may be creative ways to engage with those activities or people.

Is there any hobby or interest you used to find meaningful or you've thought about doing?

Do you have a pet? I have a kitten and adult cat and they help with loveliness. I have serious health issues to and have been staying home too.
