Is anyone familiar with slipping rib syndrome?

Thank you for your help. Yes the 10th rib resection resolved the pain. I had it Feb 2013 was in surgical pain still in June of that year. It’s a long recovery but a different pain. Slipping rib was a 10 pain after surgery it was a 7 pain but the pain slowly melted Away and then went away forever. Fortunately I had good insurance and a PCP who believed me and worked to help me solve this problem. I also went back to every doctor who told me I was crazy, drug seeking (I wasn’t taking any drugs)
and did endless wrong tests and procedures and told them about slipping rib. Here it is 2021! There are in-depth discussions I have posted on Reddit started posting there after I saw Dr Hansen surgery on there and other people have posted. I’ve never done Facebook so I don’t post there.

Did you post the article about the connections between “Genes” and slipping rib. Sorry I didn’t see it.

@meyer I probably did not post the article. However, I was investigating a number of my other issues at the time. Achondroplasia (ACH-a form of dwarfism), Ankylosing Spondilitis, Short Ribs, etc. I was looking mostly in OMIM.org, HGMD, and other sources, even Wikipedia. The article did point out that the writer recognized "Slipping Rib", or possibly even short rib is considered a spinal defect. My images showed this area of the spine was (and is) affected by Ankylosing Spondilitis, and considerable tendon and muscle damage, and some other damage, probably from some part of the rib connection to the spine. I had the three-injection steroid treatment, but it did no good. After seeing that article, and talking with a number of other physicians and therapists, I just decided to live with it. Some surgery was suggested, but I have had so many surgeries, I really rejected the idea of having more unless I just could not tolerate anything else. Spine, heart, gall bladder, prostate, thyroid, pancreas, lung, legs, arms, shoulders, etc,, etc. But my latest imagery showed that the slipping rib, or short rib, is still out of place, and I still hurt there a lot, but I am still alive at 81. The biggest problem is that the smallest opium-based pain killer sends my into a psychotic delirium now. But some nurses will, in spite of the surgeon's orders, give me some of whatever to stop the pain. So I am very troubled by that possibility now. My last back surgery, the recovery nurse gave me something. I was in Oregon when I went to sleep, but I woke up (sort of) knowing I was in prison in Butte Montana.

I had my surgery by Dr. Hansen last September. He fixed a deformity of rib 9 and sutured the hypermobile 10 to 8. My 9 had a little resection of cartilage and special suturing of 9 so it would stop poking my diaphragm.

I have healed pretty well, but found out remaining symptoms are SIBO. Painful, painful SIBO. Im currently working with a GI and trying some if my own supplyments. I have good and bad days, but really praying that what I'm doing will give me more better days.

Wow! I've been off the boards awhile. Ribs feel pretty good, but I have also battled SIBO for a year along with ribs. No wonder my pain was so bad.
My surgery involved a small resection of rib 8 cartilage and repair of rib 10 which was hypermobile and all over the place. So now, 10 is sutured to the tip of rib 8 with 9 sutured special in-between. My rib 9 was poking my diaphragm a lot and causing a lot of spasms.
Usually cases are not quite this difficult and surgery is about an hour. Mine was 2.5 I believe.

I did see the links posted by @johnbishop and they were informative. I will be getting an injection on April 20th. I sure hope this will give me some much needed relief.

How did you decide what surgeon to go to. Did you have to keep traveling back to West Virginia for follow ups? It seems like a hard trip after an operation.

Heading that way! Do you have advise on where to stay? How to travel? Any tips for an easier recovery? thanks Brayimee.

I’m going to see Dr. Hansen July 9 2021. I had been going to Dr Shiroff but he wants to use a metal plate so I’ve read so many good this about Dr Hansen I made an appt. Did you ever have lower back pain or buttocks pain or sciatic pain when your ribs were slipping.
