Is anyone familiar with slipping rib syndrome?

I pray so much this will heal me, I prayed again for forgiveness for being selfish. I'm still sore today, but able to walk-around. Anesthesia has caused some BM issue so I'm figuring that out.

Dr. Hansen in WV is a wonderful man. His wife is also incredible. They make a great team and I hope his work is shared more and more with the world. I know he is working on other rib issue too.
He has a YouTube Ribinar that is very knowledgeable.

I'm not home yet, post of visit is tomorrow. I'll be sad to be away because I worry there are no doctors in my area familiar with this, but I know 7 hours isn't too far.

Oh Aimee, this is really a good, hopeful response from you. I feel a great deal of fondness for you and I want nothing more than a resolution for you and your family of this horrible ordeal. I'm glad to hear that your surgery is over and you are in the healing part of the procedure.

I was wondering if you could tell us what was involved in the surgery?

I have been recently diagnosed with slipped rib syndrome. It has taken a year to get the diagnosis. After many CT scans, x-rays, MRIs. along with ER visits from being in so much pain. I am happy to connect with someone else that understands. It baffles me that more doctors don't know about this condition. And finding someone to treat it is another issue. I will be following your post and surely hope the treatment that the Doctor at WV did will give you some much needed relief. I live in NM and after talking to my spine Dr. was left disappointed since he had no recommendations. I have been working with a wonderful PT but the relief is minimal and I am limited by what exercises I can do without causing more rib irritation. My question for Aimee is, did you try any kind of injections before deciding to do the surgery? Thank you.

I have to be honest, I hadn't heard of it before Connect but I'm still surprised it is not well known in the medical community.

May I ask if you had a chance to follow the links @johnbishop provided and if so, were they helpful?

Hi Ericka, Yes, I read the link provided by @johnbishop. I found it very helpful and informative. I will print it out and take it to my primary provider and hope she can help me find a Doctor that can preform the injections mentioned in the article. Or if you can recommend a Dr. in New Mexico that does this type of procedure I would greatly appreciate it. As I mentioned before I have been dealing with this condition for a year and somedays are very trying. Thank you.

Yes, I had slipping rib 2009-2013 suffered terribly no one could diagnose me. went to a thoracic surgeon I stood in front of him showed him how my 10th rib was going up under the rib above it. In 2 minutes he diagnosed me just by feeling the area told me come back in two weeks he resected it. It had broken off at my front cartilage. If possible do not have it resected find a surgeon that will reattach it. See Dr Hansen on Reddit group video reattach slipping rib. In 2020 my 8th rib slipped up under my 7th I was a living lung donor in 2001 which could have caused all these problems. I am now seeing a thoracic surgeon who is trying to figure out what to do. If he resects it at cartilage he will have to plate it to a rib above or below but it still has to move with respiration. Pain is at 9,8,7th and when I lift my arms walk breath or bend I get pain in my side. I can reproduce pain by moving rib. I hope that helps you. It's always worrying when you either get no diagnosis or the doctors follow a standard routine! Reding your story I am wondering if I have this. I tripped on a kerb and fell onto my chest. Apart from the pain In one particular spot, I hear clicking there. The hospital gave me an x-ray and CT scan and reported no fracture. My Bowen Therapist suggested on a quick preliminary examination that there may be inflammation there which is forcing the rib to move!

Thank you for being a lung transplant donor. I hope that you and the thoracic surgeon find a solution that works for you. It sounds like you had good results with the first surgery. Do I have that right?

@colleenyoung, thanks for the info about Slipping Rib syndrome. Both my wife and I have this, and for years we thought it had arisen from various accidents. However, a few months ago I ran across it while doing some genetic searching. Then I checked it out, and sure enough, the "Genes Have It." Thanks again for the info. oldkarl
